Jackson the dachshund
might be your perfect match.
Jackson is a 5-year-old piebald brown and white dachshund who weighs 19 lbs. He was
surrendered by his previous family who had a baby on the way and felt they
could not give him the attention he craves. And Jackson does love attention—he's the
kind of pup who gets incredibly attached to his person and thrives on being close to you.
He's also absolutely adorable when he gets excited about his leash, grabbing it in his
mouth as if he is ready to walk himself (even though he's not much of a walker once
you're actually outside).

Environment
Jackson is an indoor guy through and through. He is currently using pee pads and
doesn't do his business outside, so he will need a family committed to continuing indoor
potty solutions. The good news is he does not need a backyard and is quiet enough to be
ok in a pet friendly home. He currently barks for a little bit when first left alone, but he’s
settling in so we’re keeping an eye on the situation. Currently, we believe he would do best with someone that works from home. Jackson is very content and happy to lounge around the house and entertain himself. He loves using doggie stairs and would happily spend all day on the couch if you let him. He's a bit of a digger and can be quite curious, getting into things within reach, so keeping an eye on him is important. He is not a fan of being crated and will escape an X pen. Jackson doesn't need or want a crate for hanging out at home, and he enjoys short walks or playtime to keep him active without overdoing it. He is learning to love toys too!

Pets & People
Jackson can be a bit shy when he first meets people, but once he warms up, he's a
sweetheart. He does well with older children and will bond deeply with his family. With
strangers, he takes his time to feel comfortable but isn't aggressive—just a little
reserved and can be a bit protective at first. Jackson is wonderful with other dogs! He is curious about dogs he meets on walks and has spent time with another dog in his foster home, getting along beautifully and even following them around. He enjoys the company of canine friends
and would do well in a home with or without another dog.

Health & Special Needs
Jackson is currently on a GI diet to keep his tummy happy and will be transitioning to a
weight loss diet in about a month. He was used to eating human food in his previous
home and is still adjusting to dog food—wet food works better for him than dry, and he's
not quite eating full meals yet. But when it comes to treats? He jumps up and down with
pure excitement! Jackson tends to whine and scratch when crated during car rides and does better when in a dog seatbelt.
Location
Jackson is available for adoption from Miami, FL. Please email
juliejohnson@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at
the button above. The adoption fee for Jackson is $375.00.
