Jack (Bouv X Newf)'s Story

Jack, 2 year old neutered Bouvier X Newfoundland

This is a courtesy listing. You must contact Jack's owners.

Jack's owners have asked for my help in finding an adopter for him. Owners are Tina and Dick Dahllof, phone number (510) 614-9850 home and (510) 303-9850 cell. You must contact them to arrange to meet Jack or for further information. They live near San Leandro, CA which is about mid-way between Oakland and Hayward.

Jack's owners need to place him because they are both in older years and are facing back and knee surgery, which will leave them unable to walk him or generally take care of him for some time after surgery. Jack tends to pull on leash, which of course is a tribute to poor training. Another factor is that a grandchild will be joining the household in another few months.

Jack weighs 130 pounds (or over 60 kg for you metric types) and his owners find him more energetic than the Mastiffs they are used to. Of course almost anything except a Galapagos tortois is more energetic than most Mastiffs. Clearly Jack now needs owners who are accustomed to training and who are accustomed to really large dogs.

I have NOT met this dog. All information is from the owners by telephone. I've also put them in contact with Newfie rescue. And advised them to get some private lessons from a capable trainer so as to make Jack more mannerly on walks so he would be more appealing to an adopter. But please don't blame the poor dog for his owners' failure to train him.

This is a courtesy listing. Please contact the owners at (510) 614-9850 home and (510) 303-9850 cell.

Jack has been adopted !

Jack got adopted within a month of being posted on Petfinder ! His adopter is very familiar with Bouviers and has had several of them. He took Jack for a walk and had no trouble getting him to go on a loose leash. The relinquishing owners are very satisfied and believe this will be a great home for Jack. and they will give the adopter my name and contact info as a resource for advice if needed.
