Ivy/Gunner's Story

Personality: Very sweet boy who thrives on routine. If you work from home or are home often, he would love to spend all that time with you! He will whine for a short time when left alone but then settles. He doesn't get along great with dogs but has made many cat friends. He does great with other people and meeting new people and loves hanging with cats.

Education: Potty trained, crate trained but prefers to be left out

Favorite Activities: Going for walks, being around people and even cats, lounging, playing with Kong toys

Looking For: Someone who can provide him with a quiet safe home and help him work on his confidence and reactivity and will take him on multiple walks. He is not too aware of how strong he is, so older kids would be best.

Special Needs/Concerns: None

Bio: Am I Ivy? Gunner? You Decide - Just Call Me Yours!

Hi there! My name has been Ivy, and it's also been Gunner, and honestly? I'll happily answer to whatever name you give me as long as it comes with love! I'm a "mutt of many talents," and after spending my whole life with one family, I was surrendered when they had a new baby. I've been with my foster for a month now, settling in and showing what a sweet, people-loving boy I am.

I'm a medium-energy guy who enjoys going on a few walks a day, sniffing everything I can, and then hanging out at home to relax. I'm great with cats (truly, big fan of them!), and with dogs I can be reactive at first, but with slow, calm introductions I can do well. With kids, I'm a bit of a wildcard just because I'm strong and not always aware of my own body, but I'd probably do best with older kids who understand that I'm a lovable goof. My absolute favorite thing is being around people - meeting new ones, following my humans around the house, and curling up nearby.

I'm fully house-trained and crate-trained for sleeping, but I don't do well being crated when you leave the house. If I'm left loose when you leave, I do pretty well as long as tempting things like food or trash are put away... I can't promise I won't explore! I am pretty alert at home and will bark at noises or when people come in until I get a proper hello. I'm leash reactive and fairly strong, so I'll need someone patient and steady to help me continue learning. I whimper a little when you leave, but it's mild and I settle down quickly.

I'm really just a loving, loyal, sweet dog who wants another chance with a family who appreciates me. If you want to chill at home, I'm all in. If you want to go for walks or explore the neighborhood, I'm your guy. I just want to be with my people and feel part of the pack. My ideal home would be on the quieter side, with someone patient who can help me with training and give me the attention, structure, and exercise I need. Whether you call me Ivy, Gunner, Gregory, or Good Boy Extraordinaire - I'm ready to be yours furever!

My adoption fee includes my spay, vaccinations, and microchip. If you'd like to meet me, please apply!

The Animal Pad's Adoption Policy
We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane. Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational. All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times. All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise. Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000. Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc. Adoption Application: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/
