Ivy's Story
Have you ever looked back at some of the things you did as a teenage pup and just... cringe? Be kind to yourself. You were still learning. And so was I, I suppose.
Hi, I'm Ivy. I'm turning two years old at the end of this month. I've been at the shelter since I was nine months old. Why? Because it's tough to live with a teenager and it's tough to be a teenager and it's especially tough to be a teenager without a family.
The other thing is, I'm a smart, loving, energetic dog and kennel life doesn't agree with me. So I struggled a lot... until I got to go to a foster home. Now, after spending some time there, I'm like a new dog! I'm about 70 lb and fully grown. I'm learning to channel my energy and intelligence, I'm learning some social skills, and I'm a whole lot happier. I've met cats and done well with them. I'm focused & friendly. And I love to show off my tricks: I'm a CHAMP at "place" and "lie down." Come by and see!
Am I an utterly flawless, perfectly obedient, unfailingly angelic dog? Heck no! Are YOU a perfect human? Wouldn't it be boring if we were? I still don't like the kennels. And I can still be a little socially awkward with dogs at times, although I do like them and get along well with them once we figure each other out. And, of course, I'm still learning, but with so many marvelous things in the world to practice and discover, I don't think I'd really want to be friends with anyone who thinks that learning (for dogs OR people!) should be over and done with as soon as you hit adulthood.
Right now, I'm at "summer camp" at the shelter while my foster (did I mention she's a real live professional dog trainer?) is away. I'd love the chance to meet some potential adopters while I'm here. I want to be available to be seen so that I can find my home, but I REALLY don't want to spend too much time in the kennel! So please don't delay- come and meet me soon!

If interested, please fill out a preliminary at odas.org/canine and someone will contact you to schedule your visit.
