Ivy's Story
06/27/2025 - Introducing Ivy!

Ivy is a beautiful one year old deaf Italian greyhound looking for a very special forever home. Ivy came to us with a broken leg (just jumping off the sofa) and because of her fragility Ivy needs a home without bigger/heavier dogs or young children. Ivy is a sweet boisterous young girl and her high energy can be too much for older dogs so she isn’t a good match for a home with an older IG. Seniors find her energy and enthusiasm to be quite annoying.

Ivy had surgery to repair her leg with a plate and has completed her rehab and is ready to go to her new forever home!

She would love a home with very physically active retired humans or people who work from home who can walk her miles a day as this high energy puppy needs long walks (4-5 miles!) as part of her prescribed rehab and to maintain strong bones to prevent a future break. Ivy’s ideal home has another young playful Italian greyhound to play with and a big securely fenced yard for zoomies. Also, because she’s deaf Ivy looks to the other dogs in the house for cues to figure out what’s going on. Ivy doesn’t want to be the only dog in a home.

Ivy is crate trained and needs close supervision when she’s not in the crate as she’s still very curious and into everything. Ivy needs an owner with a strong background in training or willing to hire a trainer to help her new owners continue the work her foster home has done teaching Ivy sign language and recall. She’s working on potty training but still has a way to go, she is improving though.

She will also need a home willing to purchase a GPS tracker and subscription (AirTags are not adequate, we recommend the Fi tracker) for Ivy to wear in the event she escapes as she can’t hear you call her home. Ivy thinks being chased is a fun game and doesn’t yet have solid recall but she’s learning in her foster home.

Ivy sleeps in the bed with the humans at night.

Finally, priority will be given to a home in central Denver as Ivy has a sister there and she loves having playdates with her sister occasionally.

Ivy is a lot of work but this sweet snuggly little girl will steal your heart (and your socks) with her big personality and goofy antics.

If you are interested in this or any other dog fostered by IGCA Rescue - Colorado, please contact our state Rescue Coordinator (Bobbie - coloradoigrescue@msn.com to start the adoption paperwork process.
