Inty's Story

Meet Inty! Professional ball chaser and full-time happy girl!

Female I German Shepherd Mix I 60lbs I 1.5 yrs I UTD on shots

Background

Inty is a 1.5-year-old, 60 lb girl who came to Toronto from Northern Ontario as a result of the wildfires. She is a loving, intelligent, happy dog (just look at her smile!) who has adapted quickly to her foster home and is becoming more confident every day.
She is house-trained and has learned her foster family's routine beautifully. She knows several commands and has made great progress with crate training and settling when her people leave.

Personality

Inty is an incredibly affectionate girl who warms up quickly to her people. She loves being close to her humans and has a special talent for turning cuddles into an Olympic sport — she'll happily rest her head on your lap, legs or hands when she's looking for some love.
She has a fun, playful side and loves chasing her ball, playing fetch and tug, solving puzzle toys and then curling up for a long nap. She has a lovely balance of playful energy and serious cuddle time.
Inty can be sensitive to sudden noises and is becoming more vocal as she grows comfortable in her surroundings. She can also be cautious in certain situations, but she is learning that the world is a safe place and making progress every day.

Activity & Training

Inty has moderate energy and enjoys multiple walks, sniffing adventures, playtime and mental stimulation throughout the day. She especially enjoys ball, fetch, tug and interactive puzzle toys. After she gets her exercise and enrichment, she is very happy to settle down for a good nap.
She knows sit, down, drop it, off, come, quiet and stay, and she is continuing to work on leash walking and crate training. She can be a strong puller on walks and would benefit greatly from structured, positive, leash training.
Inty is reactive to unfamiliar dogs and may bark and lunge when she sees or hears them. Her foster family has been able to redirect her after the initial reaction, and they believe dedicated training could help her make significant progress. She is also learning that being alone is okay. She may whine or pace for a few minutes when her people leave but is increasingly able to settle and nap on her own.

Ideal Home

Inty would do best with an experienced, active family who is committed to continuing her training and giving her plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. A fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus, although it isn't necessarily essential with the right lifestyle.
Because Inty can be vocal and needs multiple walks each day, a home without shared walls would likely be best. A quieter suburban or rural environment would suit her better than a busy downtown apartment.
Inty should be the only dog in the home. She is reactive to some unfamiliar dogs and is not currently considered suitable for a home with cats or small animals due to her prey drive.
She could potentially live with dog-savvy children, although she has not yet had direct interaction with children.

Short Summary

Inty is a playful, clever and incredibly loving girl who is ready to find her forever people. Inty loves a good game of fetch, a challenging puzzle toy and, most importantly, a really good cuddle. She is happiest when she can play, learn, explore and then curl up beside her people for a well-earned nap. Inty will l need an experienced owner who is ready to continue her training and help her succeed and help her continue to grow into the best version of herself! In return, you'll get a devoted companion with a huge heart, a goofy playful side and plenty of love to give.

All applicants must be residents of Toronto or the GTA to apply.

Apply here to Adopt
http://seapawsrescue.org/adoptionApplication.html

Sea Paws Rescue's Adoption Policy
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. All adult members of the household must attend the adoption interview. We prefer that applicants have lived at their current address for at least three months. This is to make sure that owners have had time to settle into their new surroundings, and provides stability for the new pup who themselves have already undergone multiple changes in a short time. Because young puppies require intensive training and care, we do not place puppies younger than 8 weeks of age in a home. Because of potential behavior/training concerns, we are very cautious when placing young pets in homes with children under the age of five. If applicants have another animal at home, they must introduce the animals properly. We want to make sure that their animal is happy with their selection and that the transition for both animals' will be relatively smooth. All adopters must take the animal to a veterinarian within one week of adoption as Sea Paws Rescue (SPR) does not screen for all diseases including, but not limited to, tick fever and heartworm. All further examinations and immunizations from the date of the adoption are at the adopter’s own expense. SPR makes no health guarantees or warranties. All adopters must understand that there will be an adjustment period and their pet may experience behavioural and/or health issues related to the change in environment. Adopters must seek professional assistance from a trainer and/or licensed veterinarian if they have concerns about issues related to the adjustment period. If at any time, for any reason, a SPR adopter decides not to keep their animal, they agree to return the animal back to a Sea Paws Rescue representative. Under no circumstance will the adopter surrender a SPR animal to a local shelter. In the event of a rehoming, no part of the adoption fee will be reimbursed.
