Indy's Story

Hi there! My name is Indy, and I'm a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois who is always ready to bring the fun wherever I go!

I'm an energetic, curious boy who loves exploring new spaces and sniffing out all the exciting things around me, but if you really want to see my personality shine, just bring out a tennis ball or a squeaky toy! Toys are my absolute FAVORITE, and I can turn just about anything into a fun game. I love playing fetch, having a good round of tug-of-war, and showing off my impressive toy-finding skills. Sometimes, I'm happy entertaining myself with my favorite toys, but I'm always willing to invite my favorite humans to join the fun by dropping a slobbery toy right into their laps!

I get so excited about squeaky toys that you might have a hard time getting a word in between all my adorable squeaks. I'm also a pretty smart cookie who knows my name and a few fun commands, including sit, shake, and speak! I enjoy attention and pets, and I'm always on the move, ready for my next adventure. I do have a few boundaries, though, especially when it comes to my paws, my food, and my treasured toys. I can become protective of my food and toys, so I need people who understand that I sometimes want to enjoy my special things without being disturbed. I can also get a little too excited when taking treats, so patience and care are important when offering me goodies.

Because I'm a strong, energetic Belgian Malinois, I'm looking for an experienced, committed family who can give me the exercise, mental stimulation, structure, and consistency I need to thrive. I can pull pretty hard on the leash, so a well-fitted harness is highly recommended to help make our walks safer and more comfortable. A home without children is recommended, too, so my boundaries around food and toys can be respected and everyone can feel comfortable. My ideal family will be willing to work with me patiently on my manners, leash skills, and resource guarding while providing plenty of appropriate outlets for my energy and love of play.

Positive reinforcement, consistent routines, interactive games, and engaging activities will help keep my clever mind busy and my body happy. I have so much enthusiasm and personality packed into this athletic package, and I'm ready to find humans who appreciate my playful spirit while understanding that I need guidance and respect when it comes to my belongings. If you're looking for a devoted adventure buddy who will keep you on your toes, make you laugh with his silly toy antics, and happily play fetch until you're ready for a break, I might just be your guy! With the right match, patience, and understanding, I'm ready to start my next chapter and show you just how much fun life with Indy can be!

My adoption fee of $225+tax covers the cost of my care and stay here at the humane society.

All Pennington County residents must also pay an additional $8 licensing fee at time of adoption.

Happy Adopting!

Humane Society of The Black Hills's Adoption Policy
The adoption process may take up to one hour to complete but we’ll keep it as simple and streamlined as possible. Here are the steps when you’re considering adopting a pet: - Visit our website to see available animals or see them on-site during regular hours, seven days a week. - When you find a dog, cat or small animal you would like to spend more time with, simply call the Humane Society of the Black Hills at (605) 394-4170 for an appointment. - Occasionally, our team is able to accommodate walk-ins, but as we cannot guarantee them, it is best to call for an appointment. -During your scheduled appointment, an adoption advisor will review the animal's history with you and bring the animal to meet you for an initial visit. - A second appointment may be made for you for a variety of reasons (Ex. You have a dog at home you'd like to bring in to meet the pet next). -Once you have met a pet that you think is your perfect match and you have been approved to adopt, your adoption advisor will take you through the adoption process, and you can take your new family member home!
