India's Story

STAFF FAVORITE: INDIA

We don’t say this lightly — India is a staff favorite, and for very good reason.

When India first came to UPAWS, she was scared and unsure, having been live-trapped and clearly overwhelmed by everything around her. She’s a momma dog, about 4 years old, and the last of the Skandia dogs currently available (aside from a few-week-old puppies still in foster care).

Today? India is a bundle of joy.

She’s playful, affectionate, and delightfully goofy — a little rolly-polly hippo who loves attention, belly rubs, and being close to her people. She happily climbs into laps, does play bows and mini zoomies, and keeps us laughing daily. Once she trusts you, her personality shines bright.

India does seem to prefer women and looks to her people for reassurance in new situations, but with kindness and patience, she settles in beautifully. She’s shown appropriate curiosity with other dogs and continues to gain confidence every day.

Watching India go from frightened to flourishing has been one of those moments that reminds our staff why we do this work. We absolutely adore her — and we know the right home will too.
