Fourteen-year-old Humphrey came to our Sanctuary after being rescued from a county shelter, and despite his uncertain past, he has proven to be a truly gentle soul with a heart of gold. From the moment he arrived, his soulful eyes and tender demeanor have made it clear that he is a special boy just waiting for the right family to help him feel safe and loved.<br/><br/>Humphrey can be a bit nervous as he adjusts to new environments, but his endearing personality shines through in everything he does. With patience and consistency, he is already beginning to blossom into a more confident, happy companion.<br/><br/>In his foster home, Humphrey has settled in beautifully and shown just how adaptable and sweet he can be. He even tolerates the enthusiastic play attempts of a young Golden Retriever with good humor, proving his gentle and easygoing nature. He is spry for his age, stairs, couch hopping, and daily walks are all well within his skill set. In fact, he is gone from short strolls of just a couple blocks to enjoying over a mile-long walk with confidence and pride.<br/><br/>Humphrey is doing well with routine and structure. At mealtimes, he is polite and calm, even when eating around other dogs, and he has learned to wait patiently in a sit for his cue before starting his food. He is also making progress with softer mouth manners when taking treats.<br/><br/>One of Humphreys favorite things is simply being close to his people. After walks and meals, he loves to relax on the couch and will happily snuggle in tight beside anyone sitting nearby. While he is still learning and occasionally unsure of himself likely due to his shelter experience, he is a sweet, happy boy who is genuinely trying his best to be a wonderful family companion.<br/><br/>Humphrey is looking for a patient, understanding home that can continue to help him build confidence and feel secure.
