Hulkie's Story
Eddie is an energetic dog - while he sleeps through the nights, he enjoys walking, hiking, running in parks and splashing around in water. He has excellent recall and is focused on the people he's playing with (and his ChuckIt ball) and not overly distracted by other dogs and people. He is highly treat-motivated, and was a rockstar in his obedience classes. He is very eager to please people when he understands what they want him to do, and is especially good at "find-it" games due to a keen sense of smell. Eddie has been well-behaved on ferries, on roadtrips, on restaurant patios (with a cheese bone) and even in a canoe. He would do great in a house with a yard to play in. With consistent training and the right environment, I think he could be trained to do pretty much anything.

Eddie has got along well with every dog he's met, although he sometimes likes to jump up on them or grab them with his paws. He's not easily spooked, doesn't seem interested in running away, and is generally quiet - he doesn't bark at people walking by the house or at other dogs often. He hasn't shown any signs of separation anxiety, and has been non-destructive when left alone in the home. He can be very affectionate and still considers himself a lapdog - He loves to flop onto people's laps or a soft couch, and brings people toys when he wants to play. He makes quick work of soft toys, but loves tougher chew toys, synthetic bones and any kind of bully stick or bone.

Eddie prefers women over men - he's nervous around men, especially when they approach him when he's laying on the ground - and has unfortunately bit a few men, most often with some warning but sometimes without. Eddie has a few things that seem to trigger a guarding behaviour, where he will growl, snap and/or bite at people nearby - He doesn't like people moving around at night in the dark, he shows strong resource-guarding tendencies over shoes, and will lay on shoes to protect them from people. This can also happen with landings on stairs, coats, lightswitches, entryways and exits, and narrow 'chokepoints' like hallways. We have never figured out exactly why he exhibits this behaviour, and haven't been successful in controlling or mitigating it - but he exhibits this fear/aggression far less to women than men.

Eddie is a brilliant and affectionate dog, and in the right environment would thrive and be someone's best friend - but unfortunately, we couldn't give him that.
