Hugo's Story

Hugo is an estimated 2-year-old Shar-Pei mix with a story that’s still being written—and he’s hoping his next chapter is with you.

Hugo came to us at CCHS as a stray a few months ago, and while we may never know what his life looked like before, it’s clear he didn’t always have it easy. When he first arrived, Hugo was unsure, shut down, and struggling to trust the world around him. Thanks to a lot of time, patience, and support—from both people and other dogs—he’s made incredible progress.

Hugo isn’t a “ready-made” dog. He comes with some baggage, and he’ll need a special home that understands that healing takes time. But here’s the beautiful part—once Hugo learns to trust you, he forms a bond that is truly something special. He has the potential to be an incredibly loyal best friend—not just to you, but to your dog(s) as well.

Hugo thrives with canine companionship and will require a home with at least one friendly, confident dog to help guide him and keep him active and happy. A fenced-in yard is also a must, giving him a safe space to explore and build confidence at his own pace.

What Hugo needs most is an understanding, patient family—one that will move slowly, respect his boundaries, and celebrate every small win along the way. He’s looking for a calm, steady environment where he can continue to grow, learn, and finally feel safe.

Hugo deserves more than shelter life. He deserves a home. A family. A chance.

If you have the heart, patience, and environment to help Hugo continue his journey, he just might become the most rewarding companion you’ve ever had.

We do not hold available/adoptable animals as we are a first come first serve facility. However, we do place animals in homes that are best fitting for that animal. If you rent, please supply your landlord's information as we cannot adopt until we speak to them directly or have something in writing approving the animal(s) allowed. If you are interested in us matching you with a forever pet, please fill out an adoption questionnaire below for us to know a little bit more about you! Please keep in mind we do require vet checks and meet and greets with other dogs in the home. It normally takes 30 + minutes for the adoption process.
