HUGO's Story
OTHER PETS: Hugo is calm meeting other dogs; he varies between mild interest and play solicitation after initial greetings and would likely get along with other social dogs. Hugo should meet any dog he would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone with experience handling strong dogs would be Hugo's best fit. [Some Experience] KIDS: Hugo does not engage in resource guarding, and is friendly with humans. Hugo is avoidant with some handling (like hugs!) and is also strong enough to accidently injure a small human while bouncing playfully; Hugo would do best with humans who could respect his boundaries and play safely with him. [10+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Hugo is a WICKED SNIFFAH, he absolutely loves exploring the world around him with his nose! He pulls a little at times but overall does well walking on leash (lose leash walking can be trained with positive reinforcement training.) Hugo would do well with daily walks - be sure to take appropriate weather/pavement precautions during hot and cold temperatures! [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Brachycephalic dogs have a greater likelihood of developing breathing difficulties over the course of their life, they are also more apt to overheat in hot weather and are prone to eye infections. Care needs to be taken to ensure that their wrinkles are cleaned, neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infected, and skin irritation spreads quickly throughout their body. A strong relationship with a vet is recommended to ensure that Hugo ages gracefully. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Hugo bond with his new owner as well as ensuring he has a mastery of his behavorial expecations. Continued training will keep the bond strong and his mind sharp. [Minimal] GROOMING: [Minimal]
