Huey's Story
Meet Huey
AKA: Huey Lewis and the News, His Excellency, Mayor of Leisureville

Vibe Check:
Retired statesman. Collector of tennis balls. Connoisseur of snacks. Beloved by the masses.

Fun Fact:
Huey can entertain himself for surprisingly long stretches of time with nothing more than a tennis ball and his imagination. He'll gently toss it, nudge it around, and put on a one-dog variety show worthy of a standing ovation. He's a very dignified fellow, after all.

Rescue: Albert's Dog Lounge
Age: Senior (distinguished, not old)
Weight: 70 pounds of wisdom and good manners
Fostered in: Whitewater, Wisconsin

Huey's Origin Story

Like many legends, Huey's beginnings are a bit mysterious. He was found wandering as a stray, and when his microchip was traced, the original owner explained that she had given him away years earlier.

Whatever chapters came before, Huey is focused on the future preferably one that includes comfy beds, leisurely strolls, snacks, and a devoted fan club.

Health Notes (Because Great Men Require Maintenance)

Huey has some arthritis and mild hip dysplasia, which he manages beautifully with medication and supplements. He's almost blind in one eye and mostly deaf these days, although loud clapping and high-pitched sounds still catch his attention. His spring allergies have been particularly rude this year, so he's transitioning to a 100% raw diet and adding extra supplements to help him feel his best.

Frankly, Huey believes aging is a privilege and intends to do it with style.

Personality: Think Morgan Freeman, But Covered in Fur

Huey isn't interested in chaos. He's interested in quality.

He loves his people deeply and prefers peaceful companionship over drama. He enjoys leisurely neighborhood walks, greeting admirers at farmers markets, and quietly relaxing nearby while you do your thing.

Need a clingy dog who demands constant entertainment?

Move along.

Huey is a secure gentleman who understands the value of personal space. He's perfectly happy to lie nearby, supervise household activities, or occupy himself with a tennis ball while you binge-watch your latest obsession.

And when he's ready to come back inside after a yard patrol? He'll issue one polite bark. If his staff fails to respond promptly, a second bark may be dispatched.

Family Matters

Huey gets along with calm, respectful dogs and cats. He currently lives with a tiny gremlin of a dog who apparently runs the household, and this patient old soul simply tolerates the nonsense with the weary acceptance of a grandfather whose grandkids have had too much sugar.

Really, like he has a choice.

In the interests of full transparency, the owner who gave Huey away many years ago said that he nipped at a young child. We do not know the circumstances, or even if this actually occurred, or if the owner was justifying giving him away. Huey has shown no such behaviors in our care. Still we would suggest a home with older, respectful children, just to be safe.

He's also an old man who appreciates polite company. High-energy creatures with no concept of personal space may find themselves on his "absolutely not" list.

Things Huey Loves
Snacks (obviously)
Toys and tennis balls
Slow walks
Meeting people and collecting compliments
Farmers markets
Being close to his person
Spring weather
Existing in general

Signature Move

Taking a leisurely stroll, then retiring to his favorite spot near his people before producing an impromptu solo tennis ball performance.

Fashion Sense

Huey prefers classic 1920s menswear. Think cutaway coats, top hats, cardigans, and the occasional fedora. He believes a gentleman should always be prepared for afternoon tea or a chance encounter with royalty.

Walk-Out Song

"Lovely Day" by Bill Withers.

Naturally.

Bucket List

Learning how to use the internet and your credit card.

He's heard marvelous things about Amazon. Apparently one can order hats, balls, collars, leashes, and snacks all in one place.

The possibilities are endless.

A Few House Rules

Huey does guard his food and toys, so supervision and respectful boundaries are important. In return, you'll receive unwavering loyalty, excellent manners, and the kind of steady companionship that only comes from a dog who has seen some things and decided life is better when taken one lovely day at a time.

If you've been searching for a calm, soulful companion with the heart of an old friend and the quiet confidence of a retired gentleman who still commands respect wherever he goes, Mayor Huey is accepting applications from qualified households.

His constituents are waiting.

Neutered
Microchipped
Housebroken
Good on leash, but he likes to meander and assumes you want to follow.
Prefers not to be crated, does spectacularly free roaming the house
UTD on vaccinations
UTD on preventatives

Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs.

Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality and their needs.

Puppy - Under 6 months
Young Adult - 6 months to 2 years
Adult - 2 years to 8 years
Senior - 8 years to 12 years
Golden Oldie - 12+ years
