Howard's Story
Our quiet senior Howard is ready to start looking for his forever home!

This older guy was freaked out and brought to the shelter on a snare pole by animal control, but quickly warmed up to the staff and volunteers there once he realized he was safe and getting good snacks. Hes a bit stoic and aloof, not going to be a dress in pajamas and cuddle and tuck him in and lean over and kiss him goodnight type of dog. Hes distinguished and dignified and will let you know when hes ready to interact and get out of bed... not too early please, he likes to sleep in. Hes unphased by other mellow dogs and overall a pretty chill guy but does a happy little dance at feeding time and has been working on putting on weight and growing back his hair from a longterm itchy flea allergy. We think hes some kind of Pomeranian/spitz type mix with maybe some longhair Chihuahua, under 15lbs and probably at least 10 years old. He has a mild heart murmur that doesnt need medication at this time and has been neutered, updated on shots and had a dental. Hes been good about housebreaking in foster if taken out on a regular schedule and picks up a routine and quickly. He likes short slow sniffing walks and stopping to smell the flowers... and the spots everyone pees, and whatever else he notices. Life is about the journey not the destination for him and hes ready to leave his questionable neglected past behind and find a nice quiet home that appreciates and respects seniors.
Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Howard in Northern NJ

Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
