Hoss 's Story

Distinguished gentleman seeks love(s) of his life.

See what breed he is? Hoss is a great Great Dane. He may be the largest Great Dane I've ever seen in person, and I've seen and handled a lot of Great Danes. This dog is BIG. Like, really big. And while Great Danes may not be quite as drooly/slobbery as most mastiff breeds, be ready for occasional slobber on your clothes, and the occasional drool flung onto the wall as he shakes his head.

Like most Danes, Hoss wants to be with his people. He's not destructive when left alone, but he prefers the company of people, or at least other dogs. Hoss is fairly easy to handle, especially for his size. He loves to go to the dog park or other places where he can run and play with other dogs, and he would LOVE a running/jogging companion. He would do best with someone who leads a fairly active lifestyle.
Hoss can be gentle, but he can also be rambunctious. The picture of he and Simon was taken after they chased each other around the yard several times. Simon ended up covered in slobber, but he will get back by chasing Hoss, biting at Hoss' haunches.

When considering adopting Hoss, please think about the potential costs of ownership and whether you can take on the extra expense. I don't need to tell you that prices have risen. Everything about large dogs costs more---they eat a lot of food, when they need medication they need more of it, when they require anesthesia they need a lot more of it, their flea and tick medications cost more. Hoss is healthy, but like all of us, he will need occasional vet care, and I want potential adopters to consider that, in addition to whether you have the room, the time, and the energy for Hoss.
