Meet Hoss — our big-hearted, brilliant, slightly mischievous boy who is still waiting for the person who truly understands him.<br/><br/>Hoss has been adopted and returned more than once, and each time our hearts break a little more for him. The truth is, Hoss is not a bad dog. He is an incredibly smart, deeply loving dog who needs a home that understands his quirks and is willing to work with them.<br/><br/>Hoss loves his people HARD. He bonds deeply, wants to be part of everything you’re doing, and would happily spend his days right by your side. Because of that strong attachment, Hoss struggles with separation anxiety and does not enjoy being left alone for long periods of time.<br/><br/>He is also extremely intelligent — sometimes a little too intelligent for his own good! Hoss has figured out how to open doorknobs and has been known to take himself on an unauthorized walk if given the opportunity. A secure home and someone willing to stay one step ahead of his clever brain are a must.<br/><br/>When Hoss gets bored or anxious, he can become destructive. However, we have found that he does very well when his brain is kept busy with puzzle toys, durable chews, enrichment activities, and other things that give him a job to do. This boy truly needs mental stimulation just as much as physical exercise.<br/><br/>Hoss also loves playing with other dogs and is goofy, affectionate, entertaining, and full of personality.<br/><br/>What Hoss needs most is someone who won’t expect perfection. He needs patience, structure, enrichment, companionship, and someone committed to helping him feel secure when his people aren’t right beside him.<br/><br/>Hoss has so much love to give. He just needs the right person to finally say, “We’re going to figure this out together.”<br/><br/>If you are looking for an incredibly loyal, intelligent companion and have the time and patience to help Hoss succeed, he may be the dog you’ve been waiting for.
