Honey/Sadie's Story
3 year old Sadie/Honey is the sweetest and most affectionate lovebug who adores every person she meets and gives the best snuggles. She has been gentle with all the kids she has befriended and quickly wins them over with her tail wags and kisses. She wants to be with her people and part of whatever you are doing, but she can also settle on her own, especially if she has a chew toy. She is fully house-trained and crate-trained with excellent manners - she loves all of her toys but has not chewed anything she wasnt given. She is also very patient and tolerant of being handled, making her very easy to care for. Next to affection, her favorite thing in the world is fetch - she will place her toy at your feet and lay down to wait for you to throw (though she may give a little howl if she thinks you are forgetting to do your part). She loves walks, especially in the woods, and is learning to walk on a loose leash. She does better walking on quieter paths where she is less likely to run into other dogs which can give her big feelings if she cant say hello. Sadie has been a star student in her obedience training, is very attentive, and picks up new things quickly. Once she has had a good romp and some learning, all she wants is to curl up on your lap and snore (shes a bit big for a lap, but she makes it work). She is truly a special dog who will be a very loving and loyal addition to her family.
Sadie is a velcro dog who likes to have eyes on all of her people. She perhaps has some herder dog as she also prefers everyone to be together in one place and will offer a hilarious woowoo to announce when people come and go from a room. She prefers to rest laying on or against a person :) but can settle and rest on her own, too. She is extremely affectionate and also seeks comfort from physical contact. She is very gentle and sweet with new people, especially kids. She will demand to greet every person she sees but can be redirected when people are not interested. And she gives the best hugs!
She also really likes having a job to do. She regularly checks the washing machine and runs to get the laundry when the bell chimes; she will protect you from the mop; and loves to find lost toys. Most of all, she loves training and this is a great way to help occupy her brain! She even did some very basic agility training and liked it. She is food-motivated and super smart. Her favorite high-value training treat by far is boiled chicken though she is happy with just about everything we give her.
Sadie is really, really great about being handled. She is so easy for tick checks, grooming, clean ups, even shots with the vet.
She hasnt shown any signs of resource guarding and will let us remove toys, food, etc.
Fetch is her all time favorite game. While she loves her ball, we have found she is also very happy to fetch other toys, and this can keep her from getting over-stimulated while still burning off some energy.
Sadie is a power chewer who can destroy the toughest stuffie in minutes. She has a wide selection of tough chew toys here and uses them to self-soothe. But she has never once chewed something she wasnt given.
She sleeps in her crate like a champ at night. In her first week, she cried and howled a bit and wet the crate (understandably!) so we started giving her a pupsicle to lick at night and now she will remind us to grab it if we forget and then put herself to bed. That said, she really really loves to sleep in a bed with people.
Sadie loves hiking, the woods, fields, and creeks. She hasnt gone swimming yet but likes to wade in the bay so may just turn out to be a water dog.
If you would like to meet this sweetie pie, apply today!
