Honey's Story

Honey is Up For Adoption here at Shiba Rescue of New Jersey.
Honey is a 10 year old Red female Shiba who was an Owner Surrender.
Honey walks on a leash.
She is up to date on her vaccines.
This was the second home that Honey has lived in.
No fault of her own.
The first home the family had no time for her.
This is so heartbreaking for this girl.
Here is what Honey's foster dad J r. says about Honey:
Honey is a 10 year old red Shiba who is as sweet as her name. She loves affection and will cuddle up anywhere she can get to. She even likes to be picked up and hugged! She seeks out people between naps on her dog bed and blankets, and wants to be around her family. She walks on a leash, is house broken, and obeys all commands. She is definitely a smart girl.
Honey does have some sight issues but it does not deter her in any way. She gets around the house fine and moves slowly to find her way. She learns quickly and won't have trouble finding the door to go outside. She gets up and down the 5 steps down to our yard and off the front porch, but doesn't go up a full flight of stairs. She usually moves slowly on a walk, but her Shiba instinct has kicked in a few times and she has moved faster to smell the smells outside.
She likes to explore the yard and walk around outside and would be a good companion for a coffee or outdoor activities. We recently put her on an extended leash off our front porch while we decorated for Halloween, which she loved.
Honey is amazing with all people, though is in her lower energy years. She gets along great with all kids, but younger kids might be disappointed with a low energy dog. My teens adore her, and she actively seeks them out. She is warming up to my energetic 6 year old Shiba and improves every day with simple commands of no, place, or be nice. No incidents in the last three days and she is getting more comfortable sharing space with our dog. I would imagine she would be fine with cats because she wouldn't be able to catch them or get to them when they aren't on the floor. She is a slightly picky eater. She wasn't eating much kibble when we got her, but she is eating more as we have introduced it mixed with chicken. She has eaten independent of chicken a few times, and this is improving every day. She prefers the food we had her versus what she came with, so we would recommend continuing that food. She has also taken a liking to wet dog food. She doesn't like any sort of treat yet, so we have used bites of cheese and deli turkey to reward her. She also responds very well to big verbal praises and ear scratches, and doesn't need food to be trained.
She was affectionate and loving from the moment we got her and has been the same with visitors. She has been easy to train to be good with our dog and to eat more dog food. She is eager to please and a quick and willing learner. Honey is such a good girl and we love her to pieces! She will be a loving and amazing addition to her fur-ever family.
Any one who is interested is welcome to contact J r. with questions about Honey.
If you can find it in your heart to open your home to Honey and let her live out her years, please go to www.shibarescuenj.org and fill out an Adoption Application.
I promise you that you will be getting a Sweet Baby Girl.
Honey deserves so much LOVE See less
