Meet Honda!<br/><br/>Location: Reading, PA<br/>Dog name: Honda<br/>Sex: Neutered Male<br/>Age/weight: Approx. 2 years old and 13 lbs.<br/>Breed: Chihuahua Mix<br/>Heartworm status: Just finished HW treatment<br/>Medications/Injuries: recent amputation of left hind leg, stitches on lateral right hind leg (currently coordinating removal)<br/>Good with people? Yes, curious about people and does not bite, though is sometimes hesitant potentially d/t history<br/>Children? Limited experience with children, 2 encounters were very positive. No jumping, just sniffing and allowing petting from children<br/>Dogs? So-so improving, though unlikely that Honda is able to live in a home with another dog as he requires max attention and care at this time. In terms of encountering other dogs in the community, whenever Honda encounters another dog, his back hair stands on end. Honda continues to tolerate increased exposure to dogs, though dogs must be calm, leashed and approach him and not owner. Most times, the dogs sniff one another and all is well, but sometimes Honda growls and, rarely, lunges for the other dog (only has happened twice, both encounters the dog came quickly toward Honda and I).<br/>Cats? Yes<br/>Other animals? Unknown<br/>House trained? Rarely pees/poops in home, but has marked on legs of bed(s) and chairs; Has been responding well to potty training, though sometimes lifts leg and marks on these areas (unsure why; some say that marking is to mark territory or establish security in the home)<br/>Crate trained? No. Improving tolerance of crate, sometimes whines when initially put into crate, but sleeps through the night.<br/>Energy level: Medium level. D/t amputation, should not walk more than 5-10 minutes at a time, increase to 15-20 minutes with more healing time. Plays fetch in the house and jumps across furniture.<br/>Travel well? Yes.<br/>Favorite toy/activity: He loves his blankie!!! He loves and plays with any toy. He likes to walk and cuddle!!<br/>Leash trained? Doing pretty well on the training leash!<br/>Fence required? No, but Honda could potentially benefit from being able to roam freely/play in fenced-in yard.<br/><br/>Honda might be the sweetest, most resilient boy of them all. He has been a joy to foster and has taught me so much. From what I know, he’s been through a lot in his young life.. more than any pup should ever have to experience, including abuse and neglect leading to an amputation of his left hind leg. In terms of his mobility, you would never be able to tell he’s a tri-pawed!! He loves to walk, run, play and spend time outside. In terms of his engagement with others He is super curious and wants to meet and play with everyone he comes in contact with, but he is nervous around other dogs and the hair on his back stands on end when he comes in contact with them. But with every new, safe exposure, he’s growing and learning. We rarely leave him alone right now he craves, needs and deserves as much attention, thoughtfulness and love you can give him!!!
