Holt's Story

Holt is a pawfessional dog dater. He has been on quite a few dates and was loved by all. One of his dates said, "Holt is an amazing dog!! He should be adopted immediately! He has great manners in the car, on the leash, in the house, and out in public. He knows his name, knows sit, is super smart, and is very eager to learn and please. He's super adaptable and very in tune with people. He was easy to redirect and was constantly looking at us for reassurance and direction. He was great with kids, people, and dogs. If I was looking for an "easier" dog to adopt that could fit in anywhere and with anyone, Holt is the one. Only caveat is that he needs the physical touch and attention to be happy."<br/><br/><br/>Holt was great on the neighborhood walk. He was a bit timid at first with his tail down, but 10 mins in I could see him relax and have fun with his tail up. He was great with dogs barking at him from the yard. He was interested, but not overly excited. He was very excited to learn about lawn sprinklers and was quite surprised when he got sprayed by one! He also did well with people, bikes, and dogs passing by.<br/><br/>Holt was a bit shy at first in the house, but was very playful about it. He kept retreating to another room, then back out to see what his dates were doing. Once his dates got on the couch he was super excited to to cuddle and watch soccer. Eventually he calmed down and fell asleep for a bit, but if they stopped touching him, he reminded them that constant petting was part of the date agreement ;)<br/><br/><br/>Holt is a natural hiker, who may need to build up his stamina. He stops in a shady spot when a break is needed and then moves on. He was suspicious about the running water in the creek but once his paw was in...he got excited and zoomy. A water dog was born. <br/><br/>Holt was also good when meeting kids and not phased by nearby dogs. This guy is great and we agree with his dates...what are you waiting for...adopt Holt now!

Nevada Humane Society's Adoption Policy
So, you’re ready to adopt – wonderful! We are so glad you have decided to become a pet parent. You probably have some questions, naturally. Here are a few things to keep in mind to help you prepare for the big day. Helpful Things to Know Age Requirement: Adopters must be at least 18 years old, and have a current photo ID. Adoption Fees: Adoption prices vary depending on several factors. Pets age 8+ are always fee-waived. Pets come vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered! Dogs in the Home: If there are other dogs in your home, we do not necessarily require the resident dog to meet the adopted dog. However, in some cases, there are dogs available for adoption who must meet resident dogs in the home. If you’d like your dog to meet its possible new sibling, they may do so once the adopter meet-and-greet is completed. Small Animals in the Home: Other small pets in your home (cats, rabbits, etc.) are not permitted to meet prior to adoption. Placing A Pet on Hold: If you meet a pet and it’s love at first lick, but you are unable to adopt them immediately, we allow a 24-hour hold. The cost is $25 and you must first meet the pet, and ensure it is a good fit! Discounts: We offer a military discount for active duty and veterans who've served. Please ask your adoption counselor for more details!
