Hitch's Story

This special boy is Hitch, aka Hitchity Hitch, Floppy dog, Mesmer (a gargoyle in a book), Little Man.

He had a rough start in life; He was a part of a litter that was dumped as bottle babies at a rural shelter in CA. That shelter eventually reached out to Marley's Mutts so they didn't have to put him to sleep because they didn't have a vet on staff and knew he needed help. Marley's Mutts got him to CO where he has been since mid January.

After a vet visit and some X-rays to check on his bowed legs and weak wrists, it was discovered that he actually has Rickets. Rickets is a metabolic bone disorder. Hitch will need to be on supplements, high protein dog food and probably rimadyl his whole life (however long his quality of life is good). He will not be a dog to take on long walks, but can definitely do short adventures with rests in between! Or better yet, hang out with you on the front lawn or in the backyard. Hitch is a very happy dog and loves to be with his people. He gets along with other dogs and loves to play. Hitch enjoys sunbathing (what pittie doesn't) and rolling in the grass is his favorite thing of all.

He is potty trained (when he's feeling strong, but then uses pads), uses a dog door and can move fast when he wants! He can go up and down stairs okay as long as there aren't too many, but would probably prefer as few stairs as possible. Hitch really needs floors that aren't slippery for him to get a better grip while walking, so lots of area rugs or carpet is best.

Hitch is a character with a heart of gold and a happy attitude. Oh, and the underbite with his tongue sticking out!!! He needs a special home that will keep his weight in a good spot, take him for regular check ups, monitor his health and all the while spoil him with lots of belly rubs and rolls in the grass! Are you that family?

If you are interested in adopting, please visit our website and complete an adoption application at www.elpasocountycanine.org/adopt

Please bear with us as we process applications! We are working on changing our processes to function during the COVID-19 outbreak. We have had a big increase in people wanting to adopt (yay!) so it's taking us a bit of time to get through the applications. We work on a first-come, first-serve basis. You must apply for adoption before you will be able to meet with a pup. If you meet with a dog and decide to adopt, we can process your adoption right then and you can go home with your new family member! Thank you for adopting from us and saving our sweet dogs!
