Hickory - MA's Story
Hickory
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog Mix
Age: 3y+/-, Male
Weight: 45 pds
Medical: UTD on all vaccines, Neutered, microchipped
Cat Friendly: No
Dog Friendly: Yes; but dog selective
Kid Friendly: Recommending Ages 12+
Crate Trained: Yes
House Trained: Yes
Location: Cape Cod, MA

Hickory is slower to warm up and more cautious in new situations. He can be nervous around unfamiliar people, unknown sounds, fast movement, and new environments. Once he has time to settle and feel safe, he is sweet, affectionate, and beginning to show more playful behavior.

Hickory will need a patient, structured home that can provide routine, calm handling, and clear expectations. He should not be rushed into new situations or overwhelmed with too much stimulation too quickly. He will benefit from continued confidence-building, appropriate social exposure, and consistent management.

Hickory may do best as the only dog in the home. He can be cautious around other dogs and would need structured introductions, appropriate supervision, clear interruptions, and ongoing guidance if placed with another dog. If there is another dog in the home, the dog should be calm, respectful, socially appropriate, and not overly pushy.

Hickory should not be placed in a home with young children. He is nervous around fast movement and has shown chasing and nipping behavior toward smaller children. A home with preteen-aged children or older may be considered if the children are dog-savvy, respectful of boundaries, and able to follow direction around him.

If you are interested in adopting, please click at the link below:
CRNE Adoption Application:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rjvYvkyGRug-gnCPcHFB49ksrZlQNlYQddGnkoVvNNA/viewform?fbclid=IwAR1Z3LWcB1HW2pncs-N64t1xdlD6Fm9P137xk6MErsLOE4ObXQ9erCAk-nM&edit_requested=true

Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.
If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.

Hickory’s adoption donation is $300 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and Spay/Neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and $100 deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
