Hiccup's Story
Age: 1y 6m
Breed: Akita Mix
Gender: Male
Weight: 43lbs
Dogs: Loves making new friends!
Cats: Likes his foster sister, but not her friends. Still thinks they are chew toys, and wants to chase.
Kids: Has not met any.
Training: Working on recall and kennel. Kennel is going great, recall not so much. Potty trained, but once out the kennel has to be let out immediately. Will urinate if we wait to long...

Hello, my name is Hiccup! My foster dad chose my name after the character from How To Train Your Dragon because I am intelligent, resilient, and have a big heart! The staff at the clinic voted to keep it, so that's how I got my name.

I love playing outside with my foster siblings, so much that my foster parents have a really hard time getting me to go inside. They have been trying really hard to teach me, but they haven't given me a good reason why being inside is better than being outside. When I am outside, I love searching for the crawdads that come to the backyard sometimes, finding sticks to chew on, and sometimes I love to sit at the fence and stare at the people walking by or saying hi to the neighbors. Most of the time, I sun bathe, listen to the birds, and lay on my back and watch the planes fly over me. When I am inside, I love playing with my toys or wrestling with my foster sister Blue. Most of the time, I nap on the couch with her. She's my best friend!

My foster parents take me to lots of places. I got to walk through downtown and watch the marathon runners. I was scared at first, but was reassured I was okay, so I laid down and watched the runners running right next to me. We then went to the park, and so many people wanted to meet me, but all I wanted to do was play with the kids running. My foster mom told me I had to learn how to play with dogs first and one day with kids. (I was a little rough with my foster siblings when I first met them, but a lot better now.) Since the marathon my foster parents have taken me to Starbucks (they LOVE coffee, and I love watching people), Penny's Beer Garden, and to many parks. I have gotten better about meeting people, but still hesitant with some men. I always bark at them, but it's mostly because I am scared once they give me time or my foster parents say it's okay then I am okay with them. I am lucky I get to go to many places because I have a lot of energy! I mostly love being in the car during the day I love to see everything, and at night I sleep or lay on my back and look at the stars through the moon-roof.

If my foster parents had to describe my personality, they would use one word...RIDICULOUS. (They say it alot...) I would say I am a combination of "independent" and "happy dog". I can think for myself, and have figured out many things on my own. I know I am not easily motivated because my foster parents can't even figure out how to get me inside. I am also a happy dog because even though I am cautious with people I am always happy to meet them. I try to act tough, but I am a goofball. I think the staff at the clinic would agree! My foster mom takes me to work, so I get to say hi to everyone, but she says she does it so I can learn to be in a kennel. Kennel training has been going okay, I no longer cry about being in there and will occasionally take a nap, and I am not longer destroying stuff in there, but do occasionally chew on stuff (a toy in my kennel is a must).

I am easygoing, but I do talk a lot. Foster mom says I may have some husky in me, occasionally my foster sister Lila and brother Angel join in with me. Apparently, they didn't know they could! I talk a lot to them, and my foster parents because it's the only way I can tell them what I need. I am hyper-vigilant of my environment, and always want to announce what I hear. Most of the time I hear my foster sister Shadow (a cat). She liked me at first, but I thought she was a chew toy...Now we are friends. I want to chase her though, and sometimes she doesn't like it. Her friends who visit her outside don't like it at all, so I watch them from the window.

When my foster parents are at home and not working, I love cuddling with them on the couch or bed and watching tv with them (the best shows are the ones with animals). I am curious about everything, love life, and appreciate everything I have and experience. I hope to find my forever family soon.
