HERBERT THE DERP's Story

Meet Herbert the Snowman! Derp alert!

This giant beefcake was pulled from Tulsa Animal Welfare a local high kill shelter and has been hanging out with us at Mercy seeking a foster or adopter. He has been a mostly respectful guest during his stay with us while we've been getting to know him and his needs. Very little barking, usually keeps a clean room, isn't destructive or rude with his food, no aggression. Little gassy out both ends sometimes though ?

Herbert is about 60 lbs, and has about 1/2 a brain cell. ? ok, but seriously, in my getting to know him I suspect that he was just under socialized and gets over stimulated very easily because he is sooo excitable and eager to please he can hardly contain himself. I wonder if he was just an outdoor dog and he so desperately wants to be a good boy he can't control his happy when he's getting attention. He has no regard for personal space, and can be mouthy. We are working on impulse control and he's doing great!

Herbert would be perfect for a single guy or a couple who want a dog that will constantly make them laugh and are ok with rough housing and his inability to control his tail and his licker.

A few things to note.....
Herbert sometimes falls over when he pees, is terrified of anything new and will cross his eyes and implode for a second before trying it out again BUT he will try. ? I'm so serious. He can jump 4 feet into the air over your head if startled. He's got no idea what toys are. He will chase a ball and then run away from it. He must potty before he eats. He is just a bit.....well.....dumb.

He is extremely submissive with other dogs but fearful at first and will just need to be socialized although I don't suspect or foresee any aggression, he's just a derp and trying to figure out what one does with a dog but he's successfully met many and has only had a scuffle with one who was older and grumpy. Hes terrified of cats and has no desire to even sniff them at first and will just need watched when interacting with cats as he's not lived with any. He is friendly but I would not recommend very small children due to his excitability and inability to control his entire everything.

We have worked on his impulse control with him not taking your fingers off for food and he's done well with this. It took a while however for him to learn it.
All in all Herby is just a really funny, goofy, excitable dog who needs a firm owner and an indoor home. He will not be a guard dog. He will not appreciate being left outside unattended as new things frighten him. The other day he ran into the door head first because he saw a butterfly..... I wish i was joking. ?

He is about 2.5 years old, 70 lbs, heartworm negative, current on vaccines and prevention, and neutered. He doesn't appear to be a marker or a barker but he does make pterodactyl sounds often when it's feed time. He is kennel trained. He obviously had someone who cared about him because I can see he's had a dental and a tooth extraction previously. All in all he's a really cool dog, handsome, sweet, and would make a great and easy companion. He's down to try new things if you be his emotional support human through it, and it is extremely entertaining to see him do it. He's very sensitive but very unique also ? he just makes us laugh constantly!
Herbert's adoption fee is $SPONSORED to an approved applicant. Accepting foster offers also if you just want a temporary entertainment. No children under 8 preferred until he is a bit more acclimated to manners. ? Herbert has had basic obedience training and is located in Tulsa, OK but can be adopted anywhere in the united states.

Apply at mercysakes2ndchancerescue.com if you're interested in meeting him!

Donate to Herberts ongoing care via any of the following platforms!
paypal.me/mercysakes (email mercysakes2ndchancedogs@gmail.com)
cashapp $mercysakesrescue (sasha smith - founder)
venmo @mercysakesrescue (sasha smith - last four-4545)
direct to our vet (catoosa small animal hospital on mercy sakes account) 918-266-4090
via mail to mercy sakes 1219 S Memorial Drive Tulsa OK 74112
