Henry's Story
Henry is a ridiculously sweet, friendly Staffordshire Terrier mix, who is approximately
four to four-and-a-half years old. He was initially taken in off the streets by Oklahoma City
Animal Welfare, and sadly found himself at risk of euthanasia for space, before a foster parent
helped save his life by taking him in as a foster dog and, eventually, transferring him from OKC
Animal Welfare's foster system into the care of Happy Hounds Animal Rescue. He is neutered,
up-to-date on his vaccinations, and weighs approximately 37-38 lbs.
Henry's foster parent reports that he is one of the sweetest, most affectionate dogs he's
ever encountered. His happy, smiling face will light up any room. In addition to his foster dad,
Henry also gets along well with other humans (including children, though--as is the case with all
animals--a slow introduction, under adult supervision, is always the best approach, especially
with small children, in order to ensure the children aren't inadvertently playing too rough with
the animal), and with other dogs, but does not do well around cats. Henry loves to play and to go
on walks, but, aside from the occasional episode of "zoomies," he is overall a medium energy
dog, who would make a wonderful lap dog (or "couch dog" for those with smaller laps.) He is
crate trained, and, but he also relishes the chance to occasionally snuggle up alongside his
favorite human in bed. He enjoys car rides: trips to the park, the pet food store, or just going out
to run errands with his human.
Henry is potty trained, but (probably due to not having been neutered until after he'd
already reached maturity) does occasionally try to mark if he can smell a space where another
dog has already done so, especially outdoors while on walks. He is leash trained (while wearing
a harness; he doesn't have a lot of experience walking with just a collar and leash), and knows
commands for "Sit", "Lie Down", and "Shake". Sometimes these can be a bit shaky when he is
overly excited, however, so patience--especially early on--will go a long way in this respect.
Henry will make an absolutely incredible companion and friend for anyone fortunate
enough to bring him into their home and their life. His foster dad has repeatedly stated that, if he
had enough space in his own home (for context, he lives in a two-bedroom condominium with no
yard and two other dogs of his own), he would adopt Henry himself in a heartbeat. But since this
is not feasible, he is partnering with Happy Hounds to ensure that Henry finds the perfect home,
full of love, where he will enjoy snuggles, treats, adventures, and ear scritches for all his days.
