Henry 's Story
Meet your new best friend, Henry! 🤍

Henry is as sweet as they come. He loves begging to get on the couch, gets very vocal around mealtime, and enjoys short, leisurely walks. He’s estimated to be around 10–12 years old and, as a Shih Tzu, will need regular grooming to keep him looking and feeling his best.

Henry is a special needs boy and will do best in a home that can support his comfort. He has permanent weakness in his back legs — they don’t work as well as they should, and while it isn’t something that can be fixed, we can manage it by keeping him comfortable and watching for any signs of pain. His ideal home would have little to no stairs. He can manage a step or two, but minimal steps would be best for his long-term mobility.

Because of his legs, Henry doesn’t need a lot of physical exercise. Short walks are perfect for him. He loves car rides and enjoys mental enrichment like lick mats, toys, and puzzle games. More than anything, he just wants to be close to his people.

He was neutered when he came into our care, and because he went much of his life unaltered, he does have a habit of marking indoors. Belly bands work great for this as long as they’re changed regularly. He is potty trained — he just needs to be taken outside when he needs to go. He’s so people-oriented that if you let him out alone, he’ll try to follow you back inside instead of finishing his business, so staying out there with him helps! He loves to lounge in the sun, so plenty of daily sun time is a must for this guy.

Henry loves cozy beds and prefers to sleep right next to his people at night. He gets along well with other dogs, big or small, and doesn’t seem to mind cats. We haven’t had him around kids yet, but he has a calm, gentle demeanor and we don’t expect any issues with respectful children.

He recently had a much-needed dental and had his remaining 15 teeth removed. Don’t worry — he’s healing great and is already back to eating kibble! He’s also up to date on vaccines and microchipped.

Henry would thrive in a patient, loving home that can keep up with his special needs and give him the cozy retirement he deserves.
