Henrietta Hippo's Story

Meet Henrietta Hippo!

Don't let the name fool you, Henrietta Hippo is more gazelle than hippo these days!

When this 18-month-old, 60 lb. Lab/Retriever mix first arrived, she was little more than skin, wrinkles, and hope. Severe flea allergic dermatitis had left her nearly completely bald, and it was obvious she hadn't received the care she deserved. But while her fur was missing, her spirit certainly wasn't.

From day one, Henrietta greeted everyone with a wagging tail, a goofy grin, and enough love to fill a room. She never let her rough start dampen her joyful personality. As her coat has grown back and her body has healed, she's blossomed into the happy, playful young dog she was always meant to be.

Henrietta loves toys, playtime, and making new friends. Whether she's zooming around the yard, soaking up affection, or trying to convince you that she's actually a lap dog, she approaches life with enthusiasm and an open heart.

Her past may have left her a little short on fur for a while, but it never left her short on love. Henrietta Hippo is ready to trade her difficult beginnings for a lifetime of belly rubs, adventures, and a family who will cherish her forever.

If you're looking for a resilient, affectionate, fun-loving companion with a remarkable comeback story, Henrietta Hippo is ready to waddle right into your heart.

Applications may be submitted at www.southsidespca.org
Applications will take precedence over phone calls and emails

Southside SPCA's Adoption Policy
Cats: Applications can be found on our website AND the Petsmart adoption stand located on CarMia Way off Midlothian Turnpike in Richmond’s southside. You are welcome to visit with the adoptable cats and kittens at Petsmart anytime during store hours. An adoption counselor will gladly schedule an appointment for an approved applicant to meet cats outside of the cage, we can generally work around your availability. Please note that the Petsmart staff does not show our cats. Petsmart is kind enough to provide the site to house our adoptable cats and kittens while they await adoption. Adoption of cats or kittens at the shelter will be by appointment with an approved application. Dogs: Applications can be found on our website or at one of our Petsmart adoption events. We often receive several applications per dog. Applications are reviewed by an adoption’s team that determines the best applicant for the dog. Once approved you will be contacted by an adoption counselor and an appointment will be scheduled at the shelter or at an adoption event. We can generally schedule appointments any day of the week during shelter hours. We try to respond to approved applicants within 24 hours. Please note that if you are not contacted for a particular dog or cat, it could mean multiple applications were received or that dog or cat is no longer available. Please keep watching our website and Facebook. Thank you for your interest and patience. We have a staff that is very dedicated and hard working. Our goal is to provide the best adoption experience for the adopters and the animals in our care. www.southsidespca.org
