Hennessy (Neutered) (Photos May 15 2026)'s Story

Hennessy is a handsome one-year old male Shepherd mix who was brought to the HSOV on November 16, 2025 by a Marietta City Police Officer who had picked up Hennessy (and his brother Whiskey) in the 100 Block of Pike Street in Marietta Ohio. Neither of the boys had any identification, and they were not microchipped. Our kennel techs named the boys Hennessy and Whiskey.

Hennessy has a cream-colored coat, a long fluffy tail, and a beautiful Shepherd face with dark brown eyes, black shading on his large slender muzzle, and large ears that he usually holds erect (though occasionally he lets one ear droop).

Hennessy and Whiskey were full of playful energy while HSOV Lead Canine Kennel Tech Emily Beaver spent time with them for rather quick pictures on November 16th 2025 before walking them into the shelter and getting them into their kennels/floor crates in time for dinner.

Neither Hennessy nor Whiskey appeared to be fond of kitty friends that they encountered during their photo session that evening, so we aren't sure we'd trust them around cats.

In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Hennessy and Whiskey were held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that their family would have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody called or came looking for these awesome Shepherd boys.

Note: Whiskey went home with a foster family on April 2, 2026 who plans to adopt him after he is neutered.

Hennessy was neutered on April 20, 2026 and was also given rabies vaccine. Hennessy weighs approximately 55-60 lbs.

Hennessy went home with a foster family on April 21, 2026 who planned to adopt him if all wet well ... And happily Hennessy was officially adopted by his foster family on May 2, 2026.

Unfortunately, Hennessy was returned to HSOV on May 11, 2026 by his heartbroken adopter who loved Hennessy very much .. but it turned out that Hennessy's life style was not conducive to living in an apartment. Hennessy may have separation anxiety behavior since he caused damage to his family's home when left alone and worried/stressed that they might not come back.

His adoptive family wanted folks to know that Hennessy is a really good dog with a wonderful disposition and provided this information about him:

"Hennessy has a super-friendly, outgoing personality and is good with children, cats, and other dogs. Hennessy is housetrained. He would do best with a family or individual with an active lifestyle and plenty of time to give him the exercise and playtime that he loves and deserves .. And a large fenced-in large or farm acreage would be an added bonus for Hennessy."

These updated pictures of Hennessy were taken on May 15, 2026 when HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos accompanied him outdoors for his photo session. Hennessy is currently 1-1/2 years old and is merely an overgrown puppy who is full of playful energy and enjoys life to the fullest. Hennessy was fairly energetic for the first 5-10 minutes and then began giving his best poses to showcase his personality with Angel.

Several of the photos appeared that Hennessy was displaying his rendition of "Dancing With The Stars" when he stood upright on his hind legs and placed his front paws around Angel's shoulders ... And when he 'sat pretty' to demonstrate how he could 'shake paws', Hennessy was quite a ham for many of those pictures since he instinctively knew just how cute he was when he 'smiled' at the camera. Hennessy also gave some Westminster 'Best of Show' poses for his portfolio.

And as if to prove that he was housetrained, Hennessy politely ventured into the tall grass adjacent to our photo area to 'take care of business' before returning to his kennel.

Hennessy is accepting adoption applications through his adoption agent (Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, 90 Mt Tom Road, Marietta Ohio 45750) .... And he is ready to begin interviewing candidates for the role of his new family.

Happy Update!! Hennessy was adopted on May 16, 2026.
