Heidi's Story

Update:
Heidi rides good in the car and loves to go on adventures. Has a good recall. Good on leash. Doesn't pat attention to cat. Hasn't met anyone she doesn't like...

Heidi is a young (about 1 y/o?) mix of some sort... appears to possibly have some terrier in her but the rest is a guess!

In foster care for the last few days, she has done very well. She is getting more used to walking on a leash; also starting to learn sights, sounds, and experiences that seem very new to her! Big trucks initially frightened her... but she is already taking them in stride. She saw bikers today and was obviously fearful - but did not bark or want to chase them- just not sure what they were. While walking with my own dog... we came across two different cats in the neighborhood... Heidi did not have any reaction to them - not a guarantee - but might indicate she could adapt to a cat in the household? She has not yet barked at anything on our walks. She has barked a couple times when it's feeding time... so she is very food motivated!

Heidi did not seem to have much experience with toys... but she is gaining interest in the stuffed toys and kongs that I have for her. She sleeps well in a crate at night - and if I leave the house for longer than an hour. She has had no accidents in the house yet - but I do give her frequent potty breaks. She's very interested in playing with my 11 y/o mix dog... who is tolerant of Heidi, but not that interested in playing with her at this point. She's also quiet while riding in the car - but has some difficulty figuring out how to get in and out - so I help lift her up and down.

I think she will make a great family companion dog. She is active... but does not seem excessively so - at least not in these warm days we are having! She can settle in the house if everyone else is kind of settled too. She LOVES to smile and really seems to want to please her "person" or people!

If you're interest in Heidi please fill out our online application at https://www.hdrescueoregon.com/copy-of-applications
