Hazelnut's Story
Hazelnut is her name, getting adopted is her game! This petite pittie princess has been patiently waiting for her forever family to find her since September of 2025, if you can believe it! She has been living in a foster home since October, and while they love her they are still hopeful that the right home is out there for her.

Hazel has come a long way since she was first brought home. Her walking skills are much improved, she has learned some basic commands, and with the right handling her impulse control is sooo much better. We think she is a young pup, maybe two or three, so naturally she had some puppy tendencies still but on top of those she has a prey drive around smaller animals as well as some reactivity to dogs in general. The reactivity is manageable and her walks are frequently easy peasy, but she does have some moments that need correction still. Her foster mom will absolutely talk any adopter through what has been working to set everyone up for success. We do ask for Hazelnut to be adopted as the only pet.

Hazelnut has been practicing meeting new people to emphasize that strangers are friends and not something to be afraid of. We have had many people over to give her treats and speak to her in baby talk, and she loved meeting them all, but given her past hesitancy we would not recommend she be put into scenarios like a house party or running loose in a park. She has not been at ease around toddlers, so we do not recommend a home with children. Lastly, Hazelnut will likely have a few accidents as she adjusts to her next home. We recommend treating her like a puppy at first - crate her when you are out of the house, reinforce her success outside, walk her a few times per day. Honestly, this is all standard recommendation anyway. She is crate trained and often happy to spend some time in there each day.

Yes, Hazel has some behavior that we have worked on and puts some restrictions on her adoptability, but we do not think that makes her any less worthy of finding her forever home. She really is a sweet little peanut (hazelnut?) 85% of the time, and we think it will only improve with a stable home that reinforces her good behavior. If she were able to live with other pets she would be adopted by her foster mom by now, and as it stands she is living happily in her foster home as she (unknowingly) waits for that special someone to come by.

If you are interested and want to discuss please email her foster mom Laurel at laurelsbarry@gmail.com.
