Hazelnut's Story
Hazelnut is her name, getting adopted is her game! This petite pittie princess has been patiently waiting for her forever family to find her since September of 2025, if you can believe it! She has been living in a foster home since October, and while they love her very much they are still hopeful that the right home is out there for her.

Hazel has come a long way since she was first brought home. She's (mostly) a good walking companion, she has learned some basic commands, and with a little encouragement her impulse control is sooo much better. We think she is a young pup, maybe two or three, so naturally she had some puppy tendencies but has mostly settled into a settled and sometimes goofy personality. She's even started running with her foster dad and is a natural.

Hazel does have a prey drive around smaller animals as well as some reactivity to dogs, both of which are manageable. Her walks are frequently easy peasy but she occasionally has some moments that need correction. Her foster mom will absolutely talk any adopter through what has been working to set everyone up for success. We do ask for Hazelnut to be adopted as the only pet.

Hazelnut is mostly happy to meet new people, but sometimes isn't sure and prefers a slower introduction. We have had many people over to give her treats and speak to her in baby talk, and she loved meeting them all, but given her past hesitancy we would not recommend she be put into scenarios like a house party or running loose in a park. She has not been at ease around toddlers, so we do not recommend a home with children. She is crate trained and often happy to spend some time in there each day, which will be helpful as she adjusts to her new home.

This little peanut (hazelnut?) is doing fine in her foster home, but it's not THE home for her. She is a well behaved, easy going pup 90% of the time, and we think she will only improve with a stable home that reinforces her good behavior. If she were able to live with other pets she would be adopted by her foster parents by now, and as it stands she perfectly content as she (unknowingly) waits for that special someone to apply.

If you are interested and want to discuss please email her foster mom Laurel at laurelsbarry@gmail.com.
