HAZELNUT's Story

MEET HAZELNUT….. a sassy, 12 lb, 4 year old, gold/white female shih-tzu. Since nine weeks old, she has happily lived with one family all her life. Sadly, for some reason, she is no longer getting along with the other two dogs in the household and has decided she really wants to be the only child and hog all the attention! She has not shown any aggression towards people, has always been really friendly and loves having new friends over. Unfortunately, for the safety and well-being of the other dogs in the house, Hazelnut’s mom feels that it is best to rehome her where she can be an only canine and away from other pets.

Hazelnut loves people, gives lots of kisses (she is especially fond of toes!) and has done very well with older (8yrs+) children. She enjoys doggie puzzles, toys, chews, short walks and sitting on laps. She is smart and very food motivated, so training is easy! While we never guarantee it at your house, Hazelnut’s mom reports she is potty trained, walks well on a leash and is comfortable sleeping in a pen. We hope you’ll let her sleep with you!!! She is leash reactive to other dogs, so she would benefit with training for this issue. She is also like a canine doorbell and will bark to let you know that company, Fed Ex or UPS has arrived! She is kind of a homebody and tends to get a little nervous on outings other than walks around the neighborhood. Hazelnut doesn’t like being left alone for long periods of time, but she does fine for a few of hours at a time. As she has been with the same family and a more calm environment, she would likely be good in a mature home that can dote on her and give her all the attention she craves!

Hazelnut is in good health, spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Last year, she had a luxating patella that was giving her problems, so it was surgically repaired last October and she is fully recovered. So, if you are looking for a turn-key dog who wants to dote on you and you can dote on her…Hazelnut is waiting!!
