Hayden's Story
Meet Hayden — From Surviving in the Desert to Searching for Her Forever Home

When we found Hayden wandering along a desert road in August, she was completely dehydrated and painfully emaciated. We don’t know how long she had been out there or what she had endured before we found her. We only know that this beautiful Shepherd had been surviving on her own — searching for food, water, and safety.

It is now nearly October, and Hayden’s life already looks very different.

At approximately 3–4 years old and 65 pounds, Hayden is now healthy, fully vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. She has also completed a week of professional board-and-train, which gave us an opportunity to learn so much more about who she really is.

And what we learned is pretty wonderful.

Hayden can do well with other dogs — male and female, large and small — and she even seems comfortable around cats! She does best with slow, thoughtful introductions to new dogs. Hayden does not show signs of aggression, but she can initially be unsure and needs reassurance, patience and preferably a friendly, reliable dog who can help her feel safe.

She can also become skittish when an unfamiliar, unleashed dog approaches her in a public place. Considering that Hayden once had to fend for herself in the desert for basic necessities like food and water, we think she has earned the right to take a little time deciding who she can trust.

Despite everything she went through, Hayden is not food aggressive and does not resource guard.

What does she love?

Playing catch. Belly rubs. Being loved. And, most of all, being right by your side.

Hayden has the makings of someone’s very best friend. Maybe that someone is a little boy who wants a dog to grow up beside. Maybe it’s an adult looking for a loyal companion. Maybe it’s an entire family ready to make a dog part of everything they do. We can honestly picture Hayden thriving in any of those situations.

She has a beautiful way of showing her appreciation when she knows she is safe, loved and respected.

Because Hayden is a Shepherd, she needs regular exercise, stimulation and involvement with her people. A home with a secure backyard is preferred. More than anything, we are committed to finding her a family who understands that trust sometimes takes time — and who will give Hayden the patience, consistency and love she deserves.

Someone abandoned this girl to survive in the desert.

We want the next home she walks into to be the one she never has to leave.

If you are interested in adopting Hayden, please email info@concernedcitizensanimalrescue.org. We will send you an adoption application and, once approved, arrange a meet-and-greet.

Hayden survived the desert. Now she deserves the rest of her life.
