Harvey von Heinsberg is a gorgeous 2 year old German Shepherd. Coming straight to your heart, it’s Harvey! He is so friendly; he’s basically a one-dog welcoming party. Introduce yourself and join the party! Make his acquaintance and make a friend for life. A total goofball, he is down to party at any moment. He loves walking, playing with dogs, playing with his toys, playing in water and getting pets. The list of what Harvey doesn’t love is pretty short — it’s cats (he said sorry, not sorry). His previous family noted his love for adventure (Any hikers? Explorers? Runners? He is down for the challenge). He is housebroken and has been well-behaved in a home. He's a pure lover, heart dog material. Is he YOUR heart dog? His wagging tail says yes. Come meet happy Harvey! Rescued from the Porterville animal shelter. Westside German Shepherd Rescue of LA's Adoption Policy

We require an application first so we can show you dogs who might be right for your home. We know our dogs and once we get to know you better, we can help you select your next family member! Based on our experience, Westside’s current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are “softer” and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor. We are not placing dogs into apartments/condos/townhouses at this time. Almost all of our dogs come from the Central Valley and are used to space; it is harder for them to adjust to apartment living, but please check local animal shelters, there are always plenty of dogs available for adoption! COVID UPDATE: ADOPTION DAYS & HOURS Please refer to our website for the most accurate and up to date information. ******* Pre-approved applicants only ******* ADOPTION DAYS ******* Pre-approved applicants only ******* Although our adoption hours remain the same, due to the COVID-19 situation, we are only showing dogs to PRE-APPROVED applicants. If you have submitted an on-line application but have not been approved by our volunteer, please do NOT come down to meet dogs as we won't be able to show you any. Our main priority right now is to keep our staff, volunteers and you healthy during these difficult times. No on-site screening at this time. Once approved and told to come meet dogs, we will be happy to help you. If you're just "shopping around", please apply at a later time.
