Harper's Story
Hi... I'm Harper!

I'm 3-years young and I weigh 32kg (70.5lbs)! I may not be the dog who rushes up to greet you right away, but if you give me a little time and a gentle heart, I promise I’m worth the wait. I arrived here at the GTHS as a stray, so there are still pieces of my story that are a mystery. Because of that, I’m still learning what it feels like to truly settle into a home and trust that I’m safe.

I can be nervous with strangers and new environments. I’m the kind of girl who prefers slow introductions and lots of patience. When I’m unsure, I might show that I’m uncomfortable, especially with certain types of handling, so I’ll need a family who understands canine body language and respects my boundaries through time and patience. I don’t mean to be sensitive - I just feel safest when people move slowly and kindly with me.

On walks, though? That’s where you’ll see a lighter side of me. I actually walk quite nicely on leash! I might pull just a tiny bit if an especially interesting smell catches my nose - I do love to sniff and explore but overall I stay connected with my handler and enjoy our time together. I can be cautious when unfamiliar people pass by, but I’m very good at keeping a respectful distance and managing myself.

Speaking of other dogs, I would really thrive as the only dog in the home. While I can walk past dogs on leash, I'd prefer to not share my living space with another dog. No cats for me either, please. Because I can be fearful and sensitive, I’m hoping for a home with children 12 years or older. What I’m really looking for is someone experienced - someone who sees past the nervous exterior and recognizes the loyal, tender heart underneath. Someone who is committed to ongoing positive reinforcement training and who understands that building confidence is a journey, not a race.

My adoption fee is $400 and includes my spay/neuter, up to date vaccinations, dewormer and a microchip. If you want to learn more about me, please come visit the GTHS and speak with one of the amazing Adoption Counsellors! The GTHS is open for adoptions from 12pm-4:00pm, every single day of the week and they would be thrilled to introduce you to me! I can't wait to meet you and am looking forward to starting my new life with my new family!

Love,
Harper!
