Harley's Story

Name: Harley
Age: 2 years, 2 months
Size: Medium (57 lbs)

Personality & Story:
Harley is a sweet, affectionate, and independent boy who had a close call with euthanasia before being rescued by animal control. He has a gentle soul and loves being around his people, often sticking close by your side—even following you around when he’s half asleep.

He’s more of a low-energy companion who enjoys a relaxed lifestyle. His favorite things are treats, attention, and spending quiet time with his humans. While he enjoys toys, he especially thrives on connection and affection.

Temperament & Socialization:
- Dogs: Can do well with calm, adult dogs with slow, monitored introductions (no puppies)
- Cats: Not yet tested

Harley has been making great progress with trusting new people and is becoming more confident in everyday situations. He’s even shown improvement with previously stressful things like buses, which no longer make him as nervous.

Training & Behaviour:

Harley is a smart, obedient dog who already knows several commands, including sit, come, place, no, and hand. He is:

- House trained
- Crate trained (settles well, though may cry briefly when left alone)
- Very good on leash overall

He does have some reactivity toward small animals on walks and will need continued guidance in this area. Harley can be protective of his food and toys, and may growl if people or other animals get too close while he has them. He’ll do best with an adopter who understands and respects these boundaries and can continue positive training.

Daily Life:

Harley lives indoors and enjoys a balance of relaxation and light activity. He’s comfortable free-roaming when supervised and rests in his crate when alone. While he can handle some alone time, he clearly prefers being with his people and thrives on companionship.

Health:
- Heartworm positive — currently receiving treatment
- Ehrlichia positive — receiving care

Ideal Home:
Harley would do best in:

- A quiet, low-energy home
- An apartment or house (apartment-friendly)
- A home without children
- A patient adopter who can provide structure and respect his boundaries
- Someone who is home often or can give him plenty of attention

Why Harley is Special & His Perfect Match:

Harley has come such a long way. From a difficult past to learning how to trust again, he’s slowly discovering that the world can be kind—and that people can be safe. Every day, he grows a little more confident, a little more open, and a little more ready to love.

What makes Harley truly special is the way he bonds. He doesn’t just like his person—he chooses them. He’ll follow you from room to room, quietly keeping you company, happiest simply being by your side. His love is gentle, loyal, and deeply genuine.

Harley would be perfect for someone who wants more than just a pet—someone who wants a true companion. The kind of dog who will give you all his love, stay close through the quiet moments, and remind you every day how meaningful that bond can be.

Fostered in Markham, ON
