*PETFINDER INQUIRIES WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AFTER READING HIS FULL ADOPTION LISTING. THE ADOPTION APPLICATION IS LOCATED ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

*PLEASE CLICK "SHOW MORE" below to continue reading ALL about Harlem-Pennsylvania.
Meet Handsome Harlem-Pennsylvania: a 3 year old male 76 lb. Bernedoodle, who is in an IDOG foster home in Robesonia, Pennsylvania. Big Love, Big Energy, Bigger Dunks! The Furry Globetrotter with a Heart of Gold! His mom was a Bernese Mountain Dog and his dad was a Standard Poodle.

*AGE: 3 years old (born June 2023)

*WEIGHT: 76 lbs. He has likely reached his perfect weight.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and yard are required as we feel this would help set him up for success. No electronic/invisible fences, or e-collars will be allowed.

*COAT TYPE: gorgeous curly coat with minimal shedding. He has wavy hair on his head/ears and feet. Those areas are more prone to knots and matting if not properly cared for. He will need regular brushing and grooming. You should be prepared to have him groomed regularly (every 8-10 weeks) with an estimated cost of $120/groom.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Happy and loving energy! This guy loves to be with his people which means he might even be "under foot" at times... Harlem gets very excited to meet new people and animal friends! He desires all the pets in the world! He would ideally like 30-60 minutes of walking a day or taken to a dog park or dog daycare which he has been currently doing for exercise.

*DOGS: Great! Harlem would thrive with other dogs in the home if they are playful and not aggressive. His foster family has three dogs and he has done very well. He doesn’t realize his size when he zooms through the home.

*CATS: Harlem’s foster family has 3 dog-like cats. He loves to lick the cats and snuggle with them. He also does well with the family’s bunny!

*KIDS: Yes. Older and/or dog-savvy children would be best as Harlem is a very large boy and could knock littles over with his size. He currently lives with 3 teenagers in the foster home and does excellent. He has met smaller children and has behaved very well!

*CAR: Harlem loves car rides! He will sit or lay in the backseat. He will not get out unless the command OK is used.

*CRATE: Harlem is crate trained but has not been placed in a crate at his foster home. He has been left alone for a few hours at a time with the other animals in his foster home and will simply sleep!

*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes! He has had zero issues in his foster home with going outside to do his business.

*LEASH: Harlem is excellent on walks. He likes to do a lot of smelling but does not pull. He is currently using an easy walk harness.

*AT THE VET: Harlem was taken to the vet's office for initial intake. He was a bit nervous but warmed up once treats were given. The staff all adored him!

*AT THE GROOMER: While in foster care, Harlem was given a full groom professionally & was a perfect gentleman.

Handsome Harlem is a 3 year old Bernedoodle who weighs 76 lbs. He was surrendered to IDOG by his owner who loved him very much; his partner passed away and Harlem was left at home and Harlem needs his people to be around. He started showing anxiety when he moved from a more country setting to a suburban setting. He has settled in quite well at his foster home where he is getting regular exercise and his anxiety is gone.

Harlem is a happy guy who is very sweet, loving, nutty and playful! He is a young dog full of love and would be a wonderful companion to the right family.

Harlem loves to be with people and/or his dogs but also loves to go on long hikes, watch the sunsets, and car rides. Harlem would do great in a home with other pups. He wants to be a part of it all! He is like a bulldozer sometimes (because of his size) but really just loves to snuggle.

Harlem loves to be a part of all activities. Hiking, gardening, playing tug, and getting love. He has great recall and knows commands including sit, down, paw, wait, and place. He is very treat motivated but will take them quickly unless the command nice is used.

Another dog in his new home would benefit Harlem. His humans should be active and give him the attention and engagement he needs. He loves to play with other dogs. He loves human attention also and loves to snuggle. If he could play outside all day with his family, then come inside and crash on a cool floor, he would be the happiest guy around.

We think the ideal type of home for Harlem is:
-a loving family who will ensure his exercise needs are met
-yard and fence
-kids 12+
-another playful dog in the home
-family where someone is home frequently to engage with Harlem or a dog daycare where he can spend time doing enrichment.

Adjectives that describe Harlem:
*Friendly
*Curious
*Silly
*Loves Attention
*Playful
*Funny
*Goofy
*Snuggly
*Affectionate
*Happy
*Sweet
*Playful
*Nutty

Activities that Harlem enjoys:
-Going for long walks at sunrise and sunset
-Playing treat based games such as hide and seek for treats -Getting all the pets he can
-Cuddling as if he is a 10 pound dog, right on your lap
-Playing with other dogs, especially Doodles, his favorite game with others is tug of war
-Drinking so much water the floor around the water bowl becomes the constant place for a wet floor sign

Harlem is neutered, house trained, microchipped, current on core vaccines, dewormer, and heartworm/flea tick preventives. He is heartworm and fecal test were negative.

After adoption we ask that you give any rescue dog time to acclimate the 3/3/3 rule 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. For 3 days after adoption/transition, the dog may wonder who you are, what the routine is, who the other dogs are. After about 3 weeks, the dog has typically acclimated to your schedule & knows her role in the house. After about 3 months, the dog has revealed their temperament & personality & settled in.

ADOPTION PROCESS DETAILS:
*Please read ALL the information in Harlem’s listing before applying to ensure you understand what he needs to be successful in his new home.

*Please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser).

*If you completed an adoption application in the last 6 months & would like for your application to be considered for Harlem please email us at rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org.

*You must complete our adoption application fully.
