HAPPY's Story

Hola! My name is HAPPY and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

Breed: Lab Mix
Age: approx. 7.5 years
Gender: Female
Weight: 48.5lbs (22kgs)
Height: 76 cm (paws to top of my head)
Length: 89 cm (head to butt)
Current Location: MEXICO CITY

RESCUE STORY - Boy oh boy, is my story heartbreaking! My previous owners dragged me with their car (amongst other terrible acts), and barely even fed me. I also had scabies from living with them! Thankfully, a nice person finally say 'enough is enough'. They took me away from those terrible hoomans, took me to the vet to get me all fixed up, and I have been at the shelter ever since!

During my first vet visit, they told me I had something called TVT. I got this neat thing called chemotherapy and I am as good as a senior gal like me can be! Word on the street is that a doggie who used to live in this shelter, Josie, also had TVT. She made a full recovery and is living in the Pacific Northwest where I hope I can be soon, too!

I really love to go on walks but loud noises (like motorcycles) can scare me, so please be kind and patient with me. I promise I will reward you with lotsa love! I also loveeee to be a passenger princess on any and all car rides. Don't try to take my favourite toy away from me though - that thing goes EVERYWHERE!

TEMPERAMENT - I am calm and affectionate, a real sweetheart. I won't lie, I do prefer the company of women and would do sooo well in a female-only household, however I do get along with men if they show me lottssss of love, patience, and treats hehe. In this video, you can see my hesitation around males at first, but once I realize they can be trusted, I am happy to stick around for more pets!

ENERGY LEVEL - Low/medium. I am a pretty chill gal who enjoys a nice walk but then is more than happy to snuggle and snooze!

GETS ALONG WITH:

Kids – Unknown.
Dogs – Yes! I spend a lot of time with La Charra and Mei Mei at the shelter. Here's a video of me at the crowded shelter - cool, calm, and collected as always! And here is a video of me politely meeting a new friend at the park.
Cats – Unknown.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I'm not too sure how I'll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

Leash skills – Good. You can see a video of me walking on a leash. I am a good little walker and I love to get out on my leash! Here are some more videos of me on leash (video 1, video 2, video 3, video 4). I pull a little bit and have some fearful moments, so I'm hopeful to find an adopter who will help me work on my leash skills and confidence. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help continue my success!
House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

I am spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I have tested negative for TVT after receiving treatment. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.
I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North.

NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

My adoption fee is $616.00 CAD ($550.00 + PST and GST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.

-------------------------------------

DISCLAIMER:

Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process.

The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.

WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates.

West Coast Paws Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
WCP wholeheartedly believes in open communication with our adopters. We are always here to provide support and to join you in celebrating your dogs’ successes! Submit an Application - Start by clicking the “Adopt” button on a WCP dog’s profile. You will be redirected to an application form, which we ask you to fill out in as much detail as possible. Phone Interview - After your application is pre-screened, you will be contacted to arrange a Phone Interview. The purpose of the Phone Interview is to chat about the answers you provided on your application and to ask any clarifying questions. House Check - Once you have passed your Phone Interview, we will ask you to send us some photos of your home. Fear not, we don’t expect your house to look like a showhome! We are simply looking to see where your WCP pup would live and whether or not there are any potential safety hazards (escape areas etc.). Approval - Presuming you pass your House Check, you will receive an Adoption Approval email from our WCP Adoption Team. Deposit - A $100 CAD deposit is required in order for your dog to be reserved for you. Once we have received your deposit, we will update your dogs’ profile to show “Pending Adoption” and will stop accepting any further applications for him/her. At this point, we will notify the Rescuer that a home has been found and request that they start looking for a flight volunteer to bring your pup to Vancouver. Now you patiently wait for your dog to be booked on a flight. The Rescuer will work to find a traveller who is willing to add your dog as ‘extra luggage’ onto their ticket. We refer to these kind humans as “Flight Volunteers”. Meanwhile, your pup will be checked by a veterinarian who will issue a Certificate of Health and ensure your pup's shots are up to date. The vet will then approve the dog for travel and will provide all medical documentation, including your pup’s vaccination record. Flight Confirmation & Final Payment - Once the Rescuer finds a flight for your dog, WCP will send you an email with your pup’s flight information. We will also send you specific instructions regarding airport pickup such as where you need to park, what time you need to be there, and what you need to bring with you. Don’t worry, we will tell you everything you need to know! We require you to sign an Adoption Contract before you pick up your dog. Pickup & Take Your Pup Home - Your pup’s “gotcha” day is finally here! You will pick your dog up at the airport and take him/her home with you. Follow-Up & Post Adoption Support - Your WCP adoption experience doesn’t end the moment you take your dog home. We believe in providing ample post-adoption support and want to be a part of your dog’s journey. Within 7 days of taking your dog home, you can expect a phone call from our Follow-Up Team. If you need any help or support, WCP is here for you and your pup! WCP wholeheartedly believes in open communication with our adopters. We are always here to provide support and to join you in celebrating your dogs’ successes! There is no expiration date on our post-adoption support.
