Happy's Story

Hi, Im Happy and trust me, the name fits.

Im an almost 3-year-old mixed breed, possibly a Black Mouth Cur / German Shepherd mix, weighing about 60 pounds. Im tall, athletic, handsome (if I do say so myself), and ready to find the family Ive been dreaming about.

Everyone who meets me seems to ask the same question: "How is this dog still available?" Honestly, Id like to know too.

My story started in rural Tennessee, where I was found as an underweight stray puppy. When no one came looking for me, the shelter staff knew I deserved a better chance and helped me make my way to Illinois, where Safe Haven is helping me search for my forever home.

Since leaving the shelter, my world has gotten so much bigger. I've gained confidence, learned new routines, made new friends, and discovered that life is pretty awesome when you have people who care about you.

Recently, I even got to go on vacation with another foster family, and let me tell youI crushed it. I settled in like a pro, charmed everyone I met, and spent my days having a blast running around the yard with my buddy Rex. New people? No problem. New house? Got it. New dog friend? Even better! My foster family says they've seen me grow so much, and they're incredibly proud of the dog I've become.

Im an active guy who loves long walks, adventures, playtime, and zooming around a fenced yard. If you're looking for a jogging partner, hiking buddy, fetch enthusiast, or professional squirrel spotter, Im ready to apply for the position.

Speaking of fun, toys are one of my favorite things in the world. Squeaky balls, nylabones, leather toysyou name it, Im probably a fan. I can entertain myself, but Id much rather have you join in.

The best part? When playtime is over, I know how to relax. Im quiet and well-mannered in the house. While you're working, Im happy to nap nearby. Watching TV? I'll be stretched out close by, making sure you're not lonely. I'm the perfect mix of adventure buddy and couch companion.

Im also a pretty smart cookie. I already know sit, stay, come, leave it, and down/off. Since snacks are one of my love languages, Im always excited to learn new things.

I currently live with two other dogs and get along well with them. Id love a playful dog friend who enjoys romping around as much as I do, but Id also be perfectly happy soaking up all of your attention as your one-and-only sidekick. I do think squirrels and rabbits are extremely suspicious creatures, so a cat-free home would be best for me.

Im fully housebroken, walk nicely on leash, and enjoy having a fenced yard where I can stretch my legs and enjoy the fresh air.

After spending time in a shelter, Im really enjoying being part of a family. I like being near my people and would thrive in a home where I get plenty of companionship and love.

What I don't understand is why I'm still waiting.

Im loyal, affectionate, smart, fun, adventurous, and happiest when I'm sharing life with my humans. Ive spent a long time hoping for a family of my own, and I know they're out there somewhere.

Maybe they're reading this right now.

If you're looking for a best friend who will make you laugh, keep you active, comfort you when you're down, and love you with his whole heart, Im your guy.

My bags are packed. My tail is wagging.

Now I just need someone to say, "Happy, let's go home."

Adoption Information

Happys standard adoption fee is $465.
