Meet Happy

Happy really lives up to her name -- she's the goofiest, most affectionate girl I know!

This 4 year old, 75 lb. American Bulldog mix found herself timestamped at the shelter in Philadelphia... all because she is afraid of new people. And who wouldn't be, since her owners failed to socialize her, leaving her scared of everything. But - Happy is making great progress with professional training and will do even better with the right adopter who can continue to reinforce what she's been learning!

Once she opens up to you (and it happens quickly), Happy is the goofiest, "happiest" girl ever! She really is just a big puppy. Her favorite thing to do is play catch, whether it’s a tuggy toy, ball, or even a piece of cheese, she’s over the moon to go chase it down. She runs like a clumsy baby deer, and is sure to give you lots of laughs and entertainment!

Happy is super smart! She is crate and potty trained, knows sit, down and stay and walks like a show dog on the leash. She can get overwhelmed with stimuli on walks though and be reactive (barking and pulling) with people and dogs passing by, so reinforcing her training exercises will be key!

Her tail is constantly wagging and once she knows you, she will shower you with lots of sloppy kisses in addition to ear nibbles. She’s quite a cuddler and really just loves her people unconditionally. Her dog meets have gone fantastic - she's just so loving and playful, she may do well with another pup in the home, dependent on the meet and greet.

We aren’t sure about cats yet, and would not recommend a home with little kids as she's a big girl and doesn't know her size and all the excitement may be too much for her.

Happy has some "stranger danger" that she is training on and will do best with an adopter that can introduce her slowly to new people and can continue her training routine with her to build her confidence and gradually whittle away at her fears.

Adopter must have a yard (preferably fenced) and should live within 2hrs of Philadelphia/Newtown Pa area in order to do a meet and greet with her. Happy would do best in an experienced adult only home, that’s low key and doesn’t have a lot of foot traffic or new people coming in and out.

----------------------------

Happy will do best in a home with:

- Experienced, patient, adult-only home (older kids, ok)

- Adopter who will continue reinforcing her training and allow her slow introductions to new people

- Calm, low key home environment, without a lot of foot traffic or people coming and going

- A good sized yard (preferably fenced)

- Possibly another dog pending successful meet-and-greet/introduction
