Hannah (bonded with Joe)'s Story

We are looking for a very special family who will welcome Hannah and Joe, a bonded pair from Kauai. We are the Kauai Animal Welfare Society and specialize in dogs who need more time to be ready for adoption. Hannah came to us several years ago with her sister, both nearly paralyzed in fear from a previous life of mistreatment. We eventually separated Hannah and her sister as they were playing off of each other's insecurities.

The separation allowed the sister to become more confident, and she has now been adopted in Portland. Hannah ended up developing a healthy bond with handsome Joe, who is also looking for a forever home. Joe is a hound mix, approx 10 years old. He came to us heartworm positive from a rough life as a hunting dog (his many scars to prove it). He received the treatment necessary to rid his body of the parasite and is now in good health.

Both Hannah and Joe love to go on walks & hikes, snuggle on the couch, and romp in the yard. With Joe, Hannah becomes more sure of herself and willing to meet new people and go on adventures.

We are looking for a family willing to take the time these dogs need to settle in. Ideally, the home will have a fenced in yard with at least a 4 foot fence, 2 adult humans with patience and the ability to walk skittish dogs, and a peaceful home with low foot traffic. Childern are okay, but due the the dogs' skittishness and Joe's strength, we recommend children 12 and older.
