Hannah--Available in Pittsburgh area's Story

Hi, my name is Hannah and I'm an 8 1/2- year- old Chocolate Female Lab and I am a typical, happy, loving, sweet girl--just like a Labrador should be!

I had a rough start to life--I was born to a breeder and was adopted at the age of 1 by a nice older couple. I lived with them for 7 years and they loved me very much. They spent lots of time me and I was very happy with them until my dad died this spring and my mom had to go to live in a memory care facility.

All of a sudden, I didn't have a home or anyone to care for me, so the nice people at LELRR took me in and I'm living in a foster home with a doggie sister outside of Pittsburgh in McMurray, PA. At first I was a little unsure of things, but after a day or so, I realized that I'm going to be okay. I would likely settle in quickly at any home that provides me with love and a nice routine.

I am trustworthy in the house and go outside to potty. I'm not destructive--and I enjoy playing ball and with toys. I LOVE my foster sister. In fact, I've met other dogs and I have liked all of them,

I would probably be fine with a cat that wasn't afraid of me. And I bet I would like children, too. As long as they were polite and respectful. Like I said, I really like everyone. I'm a sweet, gentle soul.

Unfortunately, my previous owners fed me all sorts of food--pretty much whatever they ate and a little bit of kibble and I'm a full figured girl at about 87 pounds. Now I am on strictly dog food--1 cup 2x a day and I've already lost some weight. I'm increasing my stamina every day by going on increasingly longer walks.

It's very important that I get down to a good weight for me--probably about 75 pounds, because I have an old ACL injury from when I lived with the breeders. I am now on a joint supplement and some medicine (carprofen) and I feel so much better. I can go up and down stairs instead of struggling like I did before.

Small, low calorie treats are ok for me, but I'm probably not the girl for you if you aren't able to commit to helping me get to a healthy weight that I can maintain--I'm feeling so much better and I want it to continue.

I'm heartworm and lyme disease negative and the vet said my bloodwork is great even though I'm 8! My gums, teeth and ears look good too!

While I don't have separation anxiety, my foster mom thinks I should go to a home where there are people home a good amount of the time---that's what I'm used to and even though I can be left alone for extended periods of time, I would be sad if that were the case every day.

If you are looking for a sweet girl to be your companion, one you can hang with for most of the day (I'm okay if you leave me for a bit though)--one you can take leisurely walks with, throw a ball for, and are committed to helping me get down to a good weight so that I feel my absolute best, we might be a match.

You might have a partner, kids or grandkids or a doggie or kitty friend for me, or maybe it's just you---I'm flexible.

To find out more about me, please fill out an application at www.lelrr.org, or refer to the instructions on your approval letter. Can't wait to meet you!
