Hank's Story

Meet Hank! Hank is a seven year old Boxer who came here through no fault of his own due to his owner not having time for him anymore. This might be the sweetest face you've seen in a while, but don't fall in love just yet; Hank is going to need a very specific type of home to truly thrive. This handsome fella can get overwhelmed fairly easily, and he would do best in a low traffic home where there's not a lot of chaos or frequent changes to which he would need to adjust. He also needs to be the king, of sorts. Hank is not on board with sharing his home with any other large dogs, nor does he wish to interact with them at the dog park, your friend's house, etc. He did live with three small dogs without issue, but we definitely suggest a meet and greet if you have any tinies at home that you are wanting to pair him with. The older he gets, the less likely he is to fully embrace new things, even if it was something he did well with in the past. A meet and greet will help reassure everyone that it will be a decent fit and is definitely a better option than finding out on the fly after getting him home that it's not going to work out. Hank does NOT do well with cats and will not be adopted into a home with any! Please do not ask to be an exception to this.
This affectionate boy may take a bit of time to warm up and feel fully comfortable. He will need a patient owner/home where he can trust and open up at his own pace. Once he does, Hank is a very loyal and loving pup who wants nothing more than to spend time with his people. Indeed, he does do great with folks of all ages, though we again want to stress that it might not be wise to have him around children without supervision until he has had time to decompress and get used to everybody. When he's happy and at ease though, he does love children very, very much!
Please note, Hank will still need to be neutered. This won't be obvious upon meeting him, as he has undescended testicles, or Cryptorchidism. He absolutely needs a neuter surgery after adoption. Not only is it our policy (and also Kansas law), but it is advised for medical reasons given his condition. You are required to neuter regardless, but we just want to stress that his case is particularly critical.
Hank has been given his first round of vaccines out here as well. And he has had some degree of training in his previous home. He was also fully housebroken; however, his owner transitioned Hank to being a mostly outdoor dog in the time period leading up to Hank being surrendered out here to us. So it's uncertain exactly how firmly Hank is still potty trained at this point. He might still remember all the expectations and be thoroughly housebroken and ready to go. If he does need a brush up to some degree, we would expect him to have an aha moment and be put easily back on track. So just prepare to do some work on this, just in case.
Hank is a very good boy who just needs a soft place to land for his golden years. If you are interested in this special fella and feel that your environment fits Hank's criteria, please stop by the shelter to meet Hank and see if you fall madly in love. Or feel free, of course, to give us a call for more information/with any questions.
