Hank's Story

Hank is a German Shepherd/Malinois mix (70/30) born August 20, 2024. Now at 14 months, he’s learned that the world isn’t such a bad place. While he can still be wary, he’s approaching the GSD standard of “aloof to strangers.” This is quite an improvement from the personal protection shock and awe approach of his youth. From not a great start, abandoned with Parvo, he’s turned into quite the young man. Hank’s best trick is his kennel recall. “Kennel” or “night-night” is an instant head to the kennel for a nap or to sleep through the night with no fuss. He has house trained his foster humans so that every time he rings the bell, one of the humans gets up to open the door. If you’ve had cats, this can sometimes look like the age old cat trick of “in and out.” He’s definitely trained and you will be too. He's great on the leash and continues to learn a great heel off-leash, combined with a pretty solid recall. He LOVES cats, squirrels and bunnies though, so sometimes they can command his attention. Ducks, nah, but sometimes a goose may get his attention. Pretty strong prey drive, so you’ll need a very capable cat if they’re going to coexist. He’s very treat motivated and loves to learn new tricks. He’s a great swimmer and chasing the ball, either on land or in the water, is his absolute favorite thing to do. He’s a cuddle bug, in bed or on the sofa, and loves to spend the evening by your side. Naps with his human are also high on the list. Every time someone has come to the door he’s warned us, and it’s been 100% successful. Absolutely no intruders or surprises on his watch. He has a foster brother he lives for and a foster sister he torments and puts up with but will be a good fit in your pack with the right introductions. He’s a wonderful and enjoyable member of our family, and our pack. With love, consistency and training he will be a wonderful addition to your home. Hank is looking for an active family who has breed experience & who would love to romp with him! He also needs a securely fenced yard. Children should be dog savvy and over 5 years old
