When he first arrived at the kennel, you could tell he was a little reserved and probably confused about how he ended up there. But he's really come out of his shell into a curious, silly goober of a young pup.<br/><br/>Hancock sure loves his toys! When he is out for an activity with volunteers, his favorite thing to do is head to the play yards where he can romp around with stuffies, squeaky toys and balls galore. On walks, he likes to explore but is a stout fellow who doesn't seem particularly built for endurance. When he's had enough of that, he likes to wriggle around on the ground and soak up some belly rubs or butt scratches from a friend. He's quite wiggly and excited meeting new friends. With other dogs in play group he's been playfully social, and he has done well with other dogs in passing or through the fence.<br/><br/>Hancock is a smart pup who will thrive with some consistency outside the kennel. On an extended sleepover he had no accidents and did well in the crate. He was a bit hesitant about the car, but fine once he got a lift in. Hancock has moments of puppyish excitability still and can be jumpy, but with more time to decompress we expect him to settle more and more. You must schedule a meet with a dog in advance - we are not currently accepting walk-ins. Please look online first to see if there are any dogs you think would be a good fit for your home before scheduling a meet. To get the process started, visit www.tinyurl.com/meetacitydog and fill out the form. One of our adoption counselors will get in touch to schedule and confirm your meet! At the kennel, an adoption counselor will introduce you and your family to the adoptable dogs, share information we know about them, and discuss our suggested ways for successfully integrating a new dog into your home. You are welcome to meet multiple dogs. If the dog you adopt is already fixed, he or she may leave with you that day - otherwise, the dog can go home after receiving the spay or neuter surgery.)<br/><br/>About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through a behavioral and medical assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. We cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog once they are in the home. Most of our dogs are picked up as strays, so we do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if most of them are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. We do have some dogs in foster homes, where they will have more information about how the dog is in a home environment. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption.<br/><br/>Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within two weeks of leaving the kennel. All dogs receive their DAPPL, Rabies, and Bordatella vaccines, though you may be required to get follow up boosters. All dogs come microchipped and with a Cuyahoga County license.
