Hammy's Story

HAMMY IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

After five long months in our program, this 1-year-old, 40-pound, fully vetted boy is finally ready to find his forever home. If you knew Hammy when we first took him in, you wouldnt believe the dog standing in front of us today.

When Hammy arrived, he was terrified of new people. Every unfamiliar person was met with barking and lunging because fear controlled his reactions.
Today, he is a completely different dog.

With dedicated training and a lot of hard work, Hammy has learned that people arent so scary. He can calmly walk past strangers, go into stores, and even approach new people without issue. Watching his confidence grow has been incredible.

Underneath his progress is the same goofy, affectionate boy weve always loved. Hammy loves fetch, zoomies, and cuddling with his people. Despite being 40 pounds, hes convinced hes a lap dog and loves being held, babied, and spoiled. Hes eager to learn, knows commands like sit, stay, wait, and heel, and is fully potty trained.

Hammy isnt the right fit for every home, but we know his perfect match is out there.

At this time, Hammy needs to be the only pet in the home. He has been inconsistent with other dogs—loving some and being unpredictable with others—so we dont want to risk setting him up for failure.

Hammy also struggles with being kenneled when he is alone. He settles well at bedtime, especially if his crate is near his people, but he may bark and cry when kenneled while someone is away or in another room. We are continuing to work through this, and he has recently started medication to help with his separation anxiety.

His ideal home is with an active individual or couple who wants a companion for walks, hikes, training, and adventures. A work-from-home home would be a huge bonus, and hed love nothing more than sleeping near his people (or in their bed!).
Hammy has put in an unbelievable amount of work to become the dog he is today. Now he just needs someone willing to see past where he started, appreciate how far he's come, and give him the forever home he's worked so hard to earn.

Could that be you?
