Habanero's Story

My name is Habanero and I’m looking for my forever home! While my name may be spicy, I’m a total sweetheart! I’m still a puppy – I turn 1 y.o. in February and weigh 22 lbs. I came to SIRA from a commercial breeding facility where I was born. My siblings and I were so scared at first – we didn’t know that we could trust humans to be kind. But once we learned that this place was different, I let myself relax and have fun. I currently live with my foster family in Chicago. My foster mom calls me a “fake Shiba,” because I’m so affectionate. She says I didn’t get the memo that Shiba Inu are supposed to be reserved and aloof. When I’m not demanding pets and attention from foster mom, I love playing with other dogs and with my toys, especially ones I can chew on. Since I’m still a puppy, I’m learning what’s okay to chew on and what’s not okay. I’m potty trained as long as I can go out on a regular schedule and not have to wait too long. I’m learning all about leash walks and foster mom says I am doing well. I like to sample things that I find on walks, like pinecones and mulch and even a branch or two. I pretty much love everything about my new life… well, maybe not when I have to stay in my crate when foster mom leaves the house. I complain about that pretty loudly. For that reason, I might do best in a home that doesn’t share walls with sensitive neighbors, or in a home where I can have a larger play pen or puppy-proof area to hang out in until I am old enough to free roam. My perfect forever home will have time to spend with me and to continue my training so I grow up to be a well-mannered adult. I’d be happy with another dog to play with, but I haven’t lived with cats or small pets to know how I’d do with them. I haven’t lived with human kids either, but I’ve let the neighborhood kids here pet me and that was fine. I am a healthy boy – neutered and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and want the sweetest little pepper like me to be your best friend forever, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA confirm if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!
