Meet Gus, an approximately 3-year-old, 53 lb Red Heeler/Australian Cattle Dog who is looking for an active person or family to join him on life’s adventures! Gus was abandoned on a property with another dog, and the kind people who found them cared for them until they could get into rescue.<br/><br/>Gus is a big, strong, athletic cattle dog with plenty of personality. He’s friendly with people, including children, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He currently lives with three dogs in his foster home and is happy to play when the opportunity arises. He’s also a great loose-leash walker and loves being outside and spending time with his people.<br/><br/>Gus is smart and eager to have things to do. He’s got the athleticism and strength to keep up with an active person and might have fun trying agility, hiking, running, or another dog sport. He could even be the kind of cattle dog who would enjoy having a real job to do. His foster family describes him as somewhere between medium and high energy, with plenty of capacity for more activity.<br/><br/>At home, Gus is settling in beautifully. He’s crate trained and sleeps in his crate overnight, and he’s comfortable relaxing when left alone. He’s also made great progress with his house manners and is gradually earning more freedom in the house.<br/><br/>Gus and cats are a bit of a question mark. He has had mixed reactions to the cats he’s encountered, so we’re looking for an adopter who is comfortable with careful introductions and management around cats. A cat-free home may ultimately be the easiest fit for him.<br/><br/>Gus is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations. Gus is being fostered in Thurston County, WA and the adoption fee is $390.
