Gus's Story

Gus’s life has already been saved once — now he’s waiting for his forever home.

Gus was just 9 months old when he was surrendered to Downey Animal Care Center. By 11 months, he was already running out of time simply because the shelter was full. Still a baby, sitting in a kennel, hoping someone would notice him.

Someone did. A kind couple stepped in and gave Gus a second chance. He’s now one year old and in a temporary foster home in San Diego — but it’s been over 60 days with no adoption interest, and Gus is still waiting for the person or family meant for him.

Despite everything he’s been through, Gus is pure love. He warms up quickly, leans into affection, and truly enjoys cuddling once he feels safe. He’s incredibly smart, eager to learn, and wants nothing more than to bond closely with his person.

Gus is:
• One year old
• Very smart and learning daily
• Crate trained (goes in on command)
• Strong on leash (still a big puppy)
• Active, joyful, and very people-focused

Gus does best with friendly male or female dogs, or as an only dog. He’s looking for an active person or family who wants a dog to hike with, explore with, train with — and then relax on the couch together. He truly is the perfect companion for someone who likes to do it all.

Gus is neutered, fully vetted, healthy, rides calmly in the car, and everyone who meets him says the same thing: he’s just a really good dog.

He’s been waiting far too long for stability and love that lasts.
If you’ve been looking for your dog — Gus might be him.

🐾💙
