Gunther/Gunner's Story

Meet Gunther ⚡🐾
~1 year old | 31 lbs

Gunther’s story starts rough.

He came to NTASR after being hit by a car as a very young puppy. He was only about 5 months old, 23 pounds, and ended up in the shelter system with a broken left femur above the knee. A painful start for a dog who was still figuring out the world.

He had surgery, healed, and somehow kept his spark through all of it. And now that he’s finally cleared and ready, what you get is a dog who is fully rebuilt, physically strong, and mentally wired to GO.

Gunther is not a casual dog. He’s a full-send kind of companion.

He’s incredibly smart, highly food motivated, confident, and always thinking. He wants engagement, direction, and a job to do. If you’re someone who likes training, hiking, running, or dog sports, he’s going to be your shadow and your challenge in the best way.

He is:
✔️ Crate trained
✔️ Potty trained
✔️ Walks on leash
✔️ Good with dogs
✔️ Good with cats
✔️ Housetrained

But he is also:
⚡ High drive and very energetic
⚡ Extremely curious and communicative
⚡ Protective of his people
⚡ Obsessed with movement (yes, wheels included)
⚡ Weirdly fascinated by running water hoses (proceed carefully)

Gunther does best with an experienced adopter who understands active, intelligent working-type dogs. He will absolutely herd, chase, and try to organize the world around him if given the chance. Livestock is not a good match for him.

He is still learning obedience, but he LOVES training. He works for treats, picks things up quickly, and would absolutely thrive in structured activities like agility, speed sports, or advanced obedience.

Underneath all that drive is a really connected, communicative dog who just wants to belong to his person and stay busy doing life together.

Gunther didn’t get an easy start, but he’s ready for a very intentional next chapter.

If you’re looking for a dog with grit, brains, and a whole lot of heart, Gunther is waiting for you ⚡
