Gunther's Story

Meet Gunther: Run Hard, Love Harder
Hi everybody! My name is Gunther, and I have some updates to share now that I’ve really settled into my foster home!

My foster family has officially decided that I am a Velcro dog. I want to be wherever my people are, all the time. I’m happiest when I’m right by their side, keeping tabs on everyone. At bedtime, I refuse to go to sleep until everyone is home. If someone is still up, you can bet I’ll be right there keeping them company until they finally make it to bed. I’m nothing if not dedicated!

I also have absolutely no idea how big I am. In my mind, I am a lap dog—and my foster family says they wouldn’t have it any other way. I love being close, getting tummy rubs and having my head scratched. I’m a very lovable boy and have lots of affection to give.
Every morning, I wake my foster mom up with a little lick on the nose. I’ve also adjusted really well to my family’s schedule. I’m learning that mornings can be nice and relaxed!
I’m still rooming with my three lady-dog foster sisters, and I love having canine friends around. I can be a bit much sometimes because I have a LOT of enthusiasm, but I’m continuing to learn how to dial it back when they tell me I’m being extra. I think I would do best with another dog with a similar energy level. A very timid or older dog might find me a little overwhelming.

I am still a smart boy and I continue to learn quickly. My foster family takes me for daily walks, and I absolutely love getting out and putting my energy to good use. I’ve been doing well with my gentle lead, and my recall has come a long way from where it started!

I’m also becoming a very good house guest. I don’t chew things that aren’t mine, especially when I have enough exercise, appropriate chew toys and treats to keep me busy. I’m accustomed to my kennel and am comfortable staying there while my family is at work.

I’m still a little mouthy, but it’s playful and I’m continuing to work on learning appropriate ways to show my excitement. I’ve also made great progress with my manners and just occasionally need a reminder.

One thing I’m still particular about is my food bowl. I don’t appreciate another dog getting into my bowl and I’ll put up a bit of a fuss about it. The good news is that I have no interest in anyone else’s food! My foster family simply feeds me in a separate area, and we’ve had no problems at all. Easy peasy.

I enjoy the company of children, but because I’m a big, enthusiastic guy who doesn’t always know his own size, I would do best with older kids who are comfortable around a large dog.

I love to run, jump, play and be part of the action—but what I really seem to love most is being with my people. I’ve been bounced around quite a bit in my short life, and now that I’ve experienced what it feels like to be settled, loved and part of a family, I’m really hoping my next move will be my last move.
I’m a big boy with a big heart, a goofy personality, lots of love to give and a willingness to keep learning.
Will you be my forever family?

Born: December 13th, 2024
Gender: Male
Breed: Husky Mix
Size: Large ( about 90lbs)
Activity Level: High
Cats: Untested
Dogs: Yes (needs to be monitored around food/high reward items)
Kids: Yes, older kids
Adoption Fee: *SPONSORED ADOPTION FEE* (Reg $345)
Thank you to Chris Jackson for graciously Sponsoring Gunther's Fee

If you are interested in meeting Gunther, applications can be found here:

http://mgpr.weebly.com/dog-adoption-application.html

Thank you to Sunny S-H Photography for the beautiful photos of Gunther

Manitoba Great Pyrenees Rescue's Adoption Policy
The adoption process starts with an application form to find out more information about your family to ensure the best fit for the dog. Applications can be found at http://mgpr.weebly.com/ Second step is to have reference checks and vet checks. We want to ensure all dogs go to responsible loving homes. Thirdly, is the meet and greet with the dog you are interested in adopting. We encourage all members of your family to be in attendance at this visit as the dog will be an integral part of all of their lives. The final step of the adoption process is a home visit from one of our team members. The home visit allows us to see the environment in which the dog will be living as well as to offer any tips and advice to making your home dog friendly. Then your new family member will come home to shower your family with unconditional love.
