Gunther's Story

Meet Gunther: Run Hard, Love Harder

Hi everybody! My name is Gunther, and I have some updates to share with you now that I have settled into my foster home.

I am currently rooming with 3 lady dogs, they are great and I love them! Sometimes they say I am a bit too much, though I am learning how not to be so extra… Most of the time. I think I would do well with another dog of similar energy, but would probably be too much for an older or very timid dog.

I am super smart and am catching on quickly to the new routines. My foster family is taking me for 5km walks every day, which is great to help me get my zoomies out! I could go even further though, if they wanted to walk me 10km I would be ok about that. They have been using a gentle lead to prevent me from pulling, which is working well. Apparently.

I will bark at the door to ask permission to go outside to do my business and am also accustomed to the thing they call the “kennel”. I stay in the kennel during the day while my family is at work.

I sleep through the night on a futon next to my foster parents’ bed. I am an early riser and my foster family is not, but I can be convinced to go back to sleep after a quick bathroom break. I can be a bit protective of my food and high value treats, so I have been eating in my kennel and not with my foster sisters, though I know to leave their food alone if I come across it.

I enjoy the company of children but am best with older kids as I can be a bit of a bull in a china shop at times. Though I have been working hard at training and no longer jump up on people for the most part, I just need a reminder once in a while.

I am a good house guest and don’t chew things that aren’t authorized, getting enough exercise and having appropriate chew toys and treats helps for sure!

I love to run and jump and my recall has gotten WAY better than it was before. I used to try to slip out the door or jump the fence, but now that I have settled in I am not doing that anymore.

I am a sweet and loving boy who has been bounced around a lot in my short life so far, so I am hoping that my next move will be my last move.

I am smart and willing to learn! Will you be my forever family?

Born: December 13th, 2024
Gender: Male
Breed: Husky Mix
Size: Large ( about 90lbs)
Activity Level: High
Cats: Untested
Dogs: Yes (needs to be monitored around food/high reward items)
Kids: Yes, older kids
Adoption Fee: *SPONSORED ADOPTION FEE* (Reg $345)
Thank you to Chris Jackson for graciously Sponsoring Gunther's Fee

If you are interested in meeting Gunther, applications can be found here:

http://mgpr.weebly.com/dog-adoption-application.html

Thank you to Sunny S-H Photography for the beautiful photos of Gunther

Manitoba Great Pyrenees Rescue's Adoption Policy
The adoption process starts with an application form to find out more information about your family to ensure the best fit for the dog. Applications can be found at http://mgpr.weebly.com/ Second step is to have reference checks and vet checks. We want to ensure all dogs go to responsible loving homes. Thirdly, is the meet and greet with the dog you are interested in adopting. We encourage all members of your family to be in attendance at this visit as the dog will be an integral part of all of their lives. The final step of the adoption process is a home visit from one of our team members. The home visit allows us to see the environment in which the dog will be living as well as to offer any tips and advice to making your home dog friendly. Then your new family member will come home to shower your family with unconditional love.
